<div class="IPBDescription">and for f[edit]layra's[/edit] sake.</div> this is ridiculous...

i walk downstairs, and i see the new TIME magazine on the dining table.

this is the cover.

<img src='http://www.angelfire.com/blog/johnca/ahhhnold.txt.gif' border='0' alt='user posted image'>

does anyone else think it's TASTELESS of time to make fun of his accent on the COVER of the TIME MAGAZINE?
<span style='font-size:8pt;line-height:100%'>Minor edit made for "time magazine" to try and help out. Hopefully the forums won't censor out "time" if I'm the one posting it. Wondering why that's on the filter to begin with. --Marik_Steele</span>

edit: LOL marik.. silly. i forgot to bypass the swear filter.. the word before MAGAZINE wasn't time.. ^_^;;

On the one hand, it probably is a bit immature to be so directly poking fun at the foreign accent.
On the other hand, I'll quote MonsE here and say that "there's no such thing as bad publicity." From the looks of the picture, Time probably came to officially photograph Arnold, so the cover design probably got his approval (or at least the approval of his PR advisors)

By the way, made an edit to the thread title. Figured I'd take out the swear filter evasion and make a funny. If it's not funny, then...um.../me scratches head and wanders off

I'm sure he's absolutely thrilled at this, actually.

He knows his whole campaign is a sham anyway, and that he has no real platform, so what does it matter?

<i>Edit:</i> Scratch that, he's running on the celebrity fame platform.

Whatever man, as long as it isn't davis or any of the other 193 certified retards who are running.

What type of campaign is he running on anyway. Or just "I can be elected because the general american public is stupid"
  • NeckNeck Join Date: 2002-01-25 Member: 82Members
He's running on a "My wife is a direct descendant of the Kennedy family" campaign.

I think he's also trying to raise public awareness of his degree (I think it's in business) and the fact that he used that knowledge about investing to become a millionaire before even making any of his movies.

Otherwise, the celebrity platform seems to be doing its job.

It's a sad day when a candidate's accent is more recognizeable than any of his stances on any issues whatsoever. And that's what's probably gonna win it for him too.

    Sad sad sad day.

Arnold has a great chance to win.

Especially with his "I have a load of cash so I'm not going to be taken hostage by special interest groups" campaigning works.

Arnold already has a pretty much squeaky clean image, his name recognition is astronomical, he is running as a liberal Republican, which means he can get support from both sides.

Not only that but I will always remember a quote from <a href='http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1902301579/ref=sr_aps_books_1_1/202-2375918-4151041' target='_blank'>'How to Win an Election'</a>:

"The most finely crafted speeches, and the best campaigning issues can all be cancelled out when someone votes for the man with the same name as their husband, or for the party with the same colour as their football team."

However, elections aren't just about the people running. Marcus Fox was a Conservative MP for many decades in the constituency of Shipley, he must have met every person in his contituency and was well known locally. He steered clear of the sleeze that was dogging the rest of his party.

Yet he still lost his seat to an unknown Labour Candidate, Chris Leslie, who's previous contribution to politics was doing Gordon Brown's photocopying because of the national swing from Tory to Labour.

So I mean its anyone's game, such is the greatness of democracy.

I don't think Arnold's running is stupid, it just proves the fact that democracy is one of the best damn things going.

I mean what? You want laws that stop people running for office? How about you can only run for office if you have a degree from University?

Fine well Arnold's got a degree in Economics whereas John Major, former British Prime Minister, never went to University.

You can't have free and fair elections and then complain when someone runs.

Yah it's sad day when someone who isn't a politician gets elected because of his fame.

We'd much rather have a well rounded very experienced politician like Gray Davis in office who creates fake energy crisees to enter into multi-billion dollar contracts with subsidiaries of Enron which increase California's defeciet by 8 billion dollars in 5 months, and then goes on to hike taxes on sales and income aswell as tripling car registration then to top it all off cuts the LAUSD budget by millions of dollars, yay go experienced politics.

Oh yah I forgot our non-existent workers compinsation program.

PS: anyone who's not voting in California after the recall shouldn't be making determinations on how sad it is one way or another.

I saw some programme about him not so long ago, it said that when he was young he done advanced politics or something like that.

He said that he is leaving movies soon and needs another job supporting him, so he will try to win the election... Forgot what the place is called again...

Anyway would get my vote for just being Terminator, saw the film the other night and it was cool. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

As it stands now the only reason Davis got elected is because he's a democrat and the Californians didn't want Bill Simon in office because he was a 'conservative businessman' and not a skilled politician, so instead of someone who could have actually done something about the budget they re-elected a frik tard like Davis who just ended up robbing the state.

They're reasoning for electing him was that they didn't want to give up their liberal freedoms with a conservative in office, despite the fact that the state would have to vote on any bill that tries to to change current legislation. I guess they think a govenor can change the state as he pleases with impunity well at least Davis did.

As far as I'm concerned I'd rather have Gary Coleman in office than Davis at this point.

    What you talkin bout dr.d?

    we should elect carl melone

    or the big nosterdaumus Shaq

or how bout lassie? I think shed do a better job in office than davis.

the SADDEST thing is that this is davis second term. I'm at least glad when the drugs he pumped into the water supply wore off people decided to give him the boot. (or it was a republican special interest kupe de tat<sp>, whatever you buy into)

This is going to sound unreal, me being me and Schwarzenegger being GOP and all, but if his programme (which has yet to be published, which isn't all that surprising given the 'special' circumstances of this election) turns out to be reasonable, and checking his political background, I don't see why it shouldn't, then why in hell or heaven not?

The modern political struggle isn't about conservativism against liberalism anymore; it's about integrity against corruption, and seeing Schwarzeneggers track record for standing up in uncomfortable political situations (he was one of the most vocal republican critics of the Clinton-manhunt), he seems to be on the right side.

The man is contrary to popular opinion not stupid, and the fact that the last actor getting into the big politics screwed up royally can't go as argument against this man. All in all, I'd at least give Schwarzenegger the benefit of considering him a serious contestant.

    Thank you.

Burn him at the stake after you give him a chance. Honestly, I don't know why people are complaining if he wins, how could anyone <i>not</i> be better than Gray Davis.
