<div class="IPBDescription">do you agree?</div> I personally like the blood squirts they've added in, it gives me a sence of accomplishment to ACTUALLY see the pieces of marine I've been ripping off thier helpless bodies. But I am sure some of you may feel it detracts from the atmosphere of the game. Please post your opinions <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

It goes great with the atomsphere! You have alien blood sure but then why wouldn't you have marine blood? Flayra originally didn't implement marine blood cause he didn't want NS to become a horror game (but i still get a few jumps in 2.0 <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> ) but it is working on great... I highly agree with it <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo--> (splat) <!--emo&::skulk::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/skulk.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='skulk.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I love it.

Especially all the blood that flys around as an onus is digesting a marine.

Seeing sprays of green and red on the walls is immersive to see after a large battle.

The one thing I do find a bit questionable is the death noise marines sometimes make. I swear I've hear sort of muffled scream/moans as they die, and it annoys me. They shouldn't compremise something like that, either the marines should scream like they mean it, or not at all.

Blood neither adds nor subtracts from the experience, I dont see why so many people see the inclusion of blood in games as such an important matter. It doesnt make the game more 'realistic' nor more 'violent'. To add to that, HL blood is one of the worst blood in gaming history...Those sprites just dont cut it anymore.

I too am disappointed at the lack of the much hyped pitter-pattering, I gotta strain myself to hear myself as gorge. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

In most games I see blood more as a means of hit-feedback and usually I don't care if it's blood or sparks on impact.
But I admit that blood <i>may</i> add to the atmosphere of something like zombie shotgunning <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

In the sticky, in the suggestions forum, they have already said they will never add more blood/gore/gibs game. Personally Im not really bothered, as long as the game play is good, there is no need for gore.

    i like the blood
    more as a hit indicator
i often thought there should be blood on the teeth after a hit

I must be bad with my wording...there was two different points there:
1- having or not having blood in a game is not important
2- right now, the blood is the only thing that reminds me that ns is using a 5 year old engine
  • see-you-in-disney-landsee-you-in-disney-land Join Date: 2002-11-01 Member: 3241Members
True monkey, while the sprites are looking aged, red goo is still red goo, sometimes it's just a little prettier (that must be an oxymoron, pretty blood?). I'm surprised you don't feel that it had any effect on the atmosperic value of the game. I cant help but feel it's more rewarding to see that their actually in pain, cybernetically speaking of course <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> , but maybe I'm just a little wierd.

Blood is not vital, but it is also not useless.

It's like saying there was no reason for them to show all that gore in "Saving Priate Ryan."

For some games, like some movies, it just cheapens the immersion if you don't portray things to a certain level of realism.

Like the lighting, sounds, and music that immerses you as you walk through a map in NS. Seeing the blood splattered on a wall from where the last raiding party failed is yet another facet of that immersion.

The blood really helps with feedback. Many times in 1.04, I'd be like WTH, I hit him like 4 times, how's he not dead! Now, I know how close, or how not close I was in actually killing him.

The blood was added for feedback, I think it says somewhere in the feedback (I can't be bothered to check).
I would like the sparks from Heavy Armour to be a bit more noticable... it feels like I am back in the 1.04 situation where you have no idea whether you hit them or not.

the blood helps me out heepz cause of my 400 - 700 ping when i bite, now i know when i see blood spurt i can run and hide and wait for the bite to register, then run out there again =)

Well, the blood was useful feedback for me as a marine last night. Let me know I was dying <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Yeh it provides good feedback and isn't gorey in any way...
  • BarxBaronBarxBaron Join Date: 2003-02-02 Member: 13031Members
    yeah we needed that feedback

the dmg sound in 1.04 did not cut it whatsoever
they need to make sparks on HAs a bit larger though imo as well like someoen else mentioned
  • MajinMajin Join Date: 2003-05-29 Member: 16829Members, Constellation
I find that it not only adds to the realism, but also can freak you out or alert you to danger.
you walk into a room covered with blood, you know something bad has happened in the past few mins... maybe you might want to run!
  • MMZ_TorakMMZ_Torak Join Date: 2002-11-02 Member: 3770Members
Yes I agree it is just the right amount of blood to give feedback and leave a nice mess where a battle has occured, warning you that this is a hot zone. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

I personally agree with the blood squirts. At least you can tell now when you've scored a hit instead of relying on the presence of stains on the walls which is no where near as reliable.

The blood sprite can block your view when biting so I dislike it.

It's very satisfying to be a skulk and bite into a Marine and watch the blood gush out of him! Mmmmmmmmm!!

before blood was implemented i, too, was like "WTH I HIT THAT GUY 6 TIMES!"

    now i know i only hit him twice. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

i have a cutom marine death scream and it Fits PERFECTLY wirh the game, its not a bloddy or gory long scream, its at least 1.5 seconds, its a scream of hopelessness im currently looking for another death sound but this one makes my games 2 times better after a big battle, the scream is pretty loud so u CAN hear it in a room next to you, it guives me a good idea of where an alien is and it also adds in amazing atmosphere, if you want to try it out jsut IM me <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
