Oni. Search for a 1.1/2.0 pre-release teaser screenshot thread and search for Flayra saying "Oni." I beleive the exact quote is "Oni have been running rampant," but don't trust my memory to a phrase that long.
[Edit]Found the link. Exact quote for the screenshot is "Onos Stampede. Did I mention that Oni are running rampant in the playtests?"
I call them cows, now. I believe the old "official" rule was that it was onos and onos... but it's been changed during the "1.04 days" to onos and onii.
Unfortunately the correct spelling is Oni, according to Flayra I believe. Think Latin, not modern english. Plus oni is the Japanese word for demon, which is just cool.

If Flay says the plural of onos is oni so be it, but it obeys no English grammatical rules. In the meantime, I'll still say the plural of onos is onos.
so they are like fungus and fungii
lol
I figured you'd just say onos's since you say Elephants, not Elephaii
What does it say when you right click and go to Adv. Evolve? "Onos." I rest my case!
And holy good jesus, what's with the double -ii endings? It's valid when there's an I there already (eg radius/radii), but to use it anywhere else is sheer lunacy. If I was dead I'd be turning in my grave.
I say Onos even though flay says Oni

For example, if a group of people is attacked by a tiger and scream "tiger", you don't call the animal a "tigers", simply because many people yelled it. The most correct name for the Onos (given the origin of the name) would be "O(h)no". Assumed the correct name is Ono, the plural form would hence become Onos.
Oh, and even if the creature is called Onos, it would probably be better to use Onos or Onoses for plural as well.

 <vulcan mode>Your logic is flawed</vulcan mode>
Its called Onos because its name is a twisted joke about the first group who saw the onos, they all said "Oh no" at the same time, the plural is what the marines said, not the onos itself.
Anyway, you know the only 2 true versions of the plural of onos are: Marine: "OMG OMG OMG!!!!" Commander: "Set base for self destruct......and prepare an escape pod for me."

The NS Manual uses "Onos" as the plural form of Onos.

QUOTE

Summary: The dreadnaughts of the Kharaa, the Onos are tanks – highly armored and very powerful. They are so large they cannot use crawlspaces and many of the narrow passages found on human ships and bases. This does not limit their effectiveness very much – the Onos is the highest level response to any threat, requiring large amounts of resources to gestate, but paying off with truly awe-inspiring strength.

That means nothing. The other alien lifeforms listed are skulk, gorge, lerk, fade, and onos. See the trend? ALL SINGULAR NOUNS!
GG to whoever found that in the manual. This subject has been settled once and for all!

My vote's for "oni", pronounced "owe-nye". Which sounds a lot better than "oh-noses"

Thank you! Someone understands.
Onos -> Oni
That's just the way it is. Don't question something so great. ^_^
