What has the bird ever done for us? Let it die imo.

Ohh yeah totally one animal who cares?

I'd actually like to show my kids a fargen condor someday, and not on a postcard.

But I guess killing off an entire species doesnt bother some people. So to you I say, if you plan to fire a weapon at least know what the hell youre shooting at. "I didnt know anything about condors before I shot the **** out of one" perfect, poster child for the anti-gun crackers out there

Guys, this is an <i>endangered</i> bird. Every one killed pushes the species closer to extinction. That's hardly something to shrug off.

I can see excatly what special kind of **** this cat was. Theres guys like him all over this damn province. They just cut the head off said deer, take it to a taxedermist and get it mounted. Ive found 3 deer carcasses when hunting, just laying on the ground rotting. One of em was real recent too, nothing had been eating it yet. They werent even cleaned for christs sake. Waste of life that is.

Yeah? But I think it's stupid for being fine such a sum for killing a bird you didn't know was Endangered.

People who cannot take the responsibility to CHECK shouldn't be allowed guns.
Then again, noone should be allowed guns, apart from those keeping things civil.

Who the hell <i>doesn't</i> know that Condors are endangered?

Stupid people should not be immune to the law.

    What's worse, ignorance or arrogance?

    Ignorance BY FAR.

But in this case the guy simply had no knowledge of the bird being on the protected-animals list, so it would be unjust to punish him with a 5-year probation and fines. What will that teach him? If anything, they should force him to memorize the entire endangered species list, perform a test overseen by an FBI agent to determine his knowledge, and if he fails, he's put under house arrest under the supervision of Barbara Bush.
    *phew* Long run-on sentance, enjoy!

Fun condor facts (just stopped by the San Diego Zoo on vacation, lol): A fully grown condor's wingspan stretches up to 12 feet, and they can glide over 100 miles without flapping once. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

A species going extinct isn't anything you can fix, it's a bit more permanent than that. A whole lot of people actually care about preventing stuff like that, and not just hippies, so one guy shouldn't have the right to go ahead and just shoot a member of an endangered species. The fine isn't just an arbitrary thing, it's there to remind people to pay more attention to what they kill.

Ignorance of the law dosnt excuse you from the law. If some guy from Somalia (just an example) came to the states and say, commenced to jaywalking, he couldnt just say "I didnt know" an expect to be let off the hook. And Fam, i could have one **** of a discussion about that with you.

If it's something as minor as Jaywalking maybe they would let him off the hook with just a warning or something, but if he came over and killed someone's skull off with a brick, then i see what you mean...

Lets not be pessimistic about this thread being locked.

Did you know that about 100 species become extinct everyday? So does killing one bird make a difference amongst all the animals and organisms that die every day? Yes it does, but what about the millions of chickens that die in **** conditions, which the PETA are always complainining about?

I think this guy does deserve a punishment for killing something endangered, I mean there is really no reason to kill anything, unless you want to eat it or study it. But IMHO, it should be a small fine, maybe 150 dollars american and a warning not to do something like that again.

This guy reminds me of that dude from the short story , "The Most Dangerous Game." He for some reason, reminds me of someguy going out to hunt all these exotic, wild, and endangered creatures, for the challenge. Don't ask me why, but he does.

Anyways people, we all die, its not like that one bird was going to live forever. Lets just say, he was helping the natural cycle of things.

The funniest thing about guns is the pro-guns types.

No matter what thbey do to justify them, just compare the figures of the amount of gun crimes committed with guns and the amount of guns crimes had guns not been available on any level.

    Whoops, sorry for the hijack.

Just because something hasn't done a favour or anything useful for us doesn't give us the right to kill it. It's life, too.

He stated that it is a bad rep. that someone shot at a extremely endangered bird. and killed.
and in fact, its our fault they are in that endangered state. maybe its not big deal, really it isnt, it would have no effect on our lifes what so ever.
but doesnt that sound just wrong?
hmmmm. so replying to the original post. . if someone didnt know condors were an endangered species? thats just a sad sad thing.
if he honestly didnt know. i mean let the guy go with a fine... and take his gun permit, till he deserves to go hunting. and he didnt get fined for killing the deer...more so for avoiding the very exensive out of non-resident permit you have to purchase. and evidentally lieing about it, im sure they cared nothing about the deer. just the money and fraud. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

ok if a deer was endangered they would sell deer tags for that deer. and there is no other deer in our area besides a white tailed dear. and they are NOT endangered. They are not protesting anything about endangered deer. The argument is they veiw hunting as cruel. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo--> and think it should be limited or stopped all together, which will never happen. or shouldnt happen... i mean with the tags they give out now. the population still grows...

Well I guess the punishment is a bit excessive.

Probation would probably do, along with having to re-take safety courses for guns, etc.

    <i>Edit:</i> Bleh, can't spell today.

The problem with that, is that you can probably find someone willing to pay more than 150 dollars for a condor.
