<div class="IPBDescription">"I got a contact sir... it's massive..."</div> Converted from Freespace 2. Replaces hologlobe in ns_hera.
After their arrival in the Gamma Draconis system, a long-range recon patrol from the 5th Fleet headquarters in Capella picked up a massive unknown contact not on their navigation database. Completely undetected 15 years before by the science vessel GTS Ericsson, the unknown contact was discovered to be a massive gate centered around a subspace portal. An expedition was launched by the GTD Aquitane, the GVD Psamtik, 20 other cruisers and corvettes, and travelled through the portal into a distant nebula, the farthest exploration mission in history. On the other side, however, the story was different. Confronted by their old nemesis from the Great War, a Shivan task force decimated a number of fighter wings from the GTD Aquitane. On a mission by the 107th Ravens, a Shivan destroyer was found to be lurking in the area. Designated the Ravana, this new destroyer was over 50,000 tons lighter than it's counterpart, the Demon, but was bristling with potent flak and anti-fighter turrets capable of reducing entire squadrons to debris. An ambitious mission was launched against the Ravana, and ended with its successful destruction. For the time being, the nebular theater beyond the newly-dubbed Knossos Subspace Portal was secure.
Six years later, Capella is gone, and the subspace corridor to Earth has been restored. The fate of the Shivans and the escaping refugees from Capella, nobody knows; all contact lost when an armada of Sathanas juggernauts destroyed the Capella star. There hasn't been a single Shivan vessel detected anywhere in Terran/Vasudan space since then.
