Friendly Fire

<div class="IPBDescription">Getting boring</div> 2.0 is very well balanced and quite fun to play. There is though one thing that pisses me off. Friendly fire is set off. It causes whole teams of hmg/ha (or lerks or gorges or or..) or gl shoot all around without any sense. Unrealistic and not imho fun. Requires lots of less skill and lots of less tactics. Looks also stupid when you hit the back of another marines with 4 grenades and they just bounce off and explode on his legs. Killing the nasty little skulk most of the time.

I have understood that something in the engine would make implementing ff very hard. Spores and other unwanted things (ocs?) would start hurting teammates. But has the dev team REALLY looked into it?

    It's already implemented. Play on servers with tournament mode enabled.

    tourney mode allows FF. Most pubs aren't ready for it, which is why it's limited pretty much to clan play (it's what the mode was designed for).

    FF on Pubs = Frustration. Every single game will have SOME idiot who will want to go around shooting A) Teammates or B) Team structures. TK'ing will reach an all-time high. :/

    The worst was the Jerk who would set off the mines in base and blow up the BASE, 8 kills and most things down to 50% life!... oh yeah FF is fun on PUBS!

    ummm, can you imagine the carnage with onos charging, lerks sporing, gorges bb (dunno if that one counts) a marine base while the rest of the team piles in?

    ff, imo, should always be off for ns pub.

    I agree ff should be allowed to be on(not all pubs are newbs) and flayra has already dealt with any small problems that might've been in mp_tournamentmode, but he didnt want to put it on because he doesnt want newbies joining a game from the in-game browser that has FF on. I asked him if we could have an ff mode if sv_password was not empty and he said maybe, I think hes just pretty busy with other stuff and its not very high on his list of priorities.

    I like FF as marines.. usually because the non-clan regs on my clan server are all retards who are easily amused by the idea of killing their own hive...

    Heh heh, no. It's actually easier to control who you shoot, over where you bite...

    One accidental bite is generally enough to kill a fellow skulk, as long as the other skulk suffers some combat wounds from marines.

    FF isnt very equal to the two teams in 2.0

    I dont like how a grenade can harm my marine teammates, but a Xeno will not harm other skulks. I am dissapointed that an errant onos does not accidentally devour a gorge, or that stomp does not affect any other aliens in the battle with him. Acid rocket and bite will hurt each other, but why not the large area effect abilities?

    if LerkGas hurt skulks, tournament mode would be a VERY different place. people would be very careful. it would be fun.

    Another thing, when you have a couple of skulks, they tend to bite each other unintentionally. Been killed/killed a few by accident that way...

    especially when the skulk group is killing rine structures...
    the only good thing about ff is that the marines actually learn to duck when they encounter enemys, allowing there teammates to shoot too. well, probably not the only good thing, but imho the best <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    if you all read the manual which is really cool. Kudos to Flay who wrote it. It explains FF and why it doesn't affect the marines. Something about nano-technology.

    Just so you know, friendly fire only does around 33% damage, and things like spores and parasite don't do FF. I'm all for a variable to turn FF on but still have tournament mode off though.

    The biggest problem will be skulks running up to a gorge and biting him when they need healing though =/. I've seen some rather embarassing misshaps regarding that in clan matches.

    Ohh, and one last thing, Flayra didn't write the manual, I forgot who did but I'm positive it wasn't Flayra.

    Yes, it'll be annoying when the mates who are there to back you up, end up turning your feet to swiss cheese to get the skulk off you. it'll also be a **** when someone asks for a GL and starts popping them around your com chair. not to mention mines doing more harm then good if you place them too close to your stuff (or yourself).

    But that may also stop marines tiling the base floor with mines and turret farms could be very dangerous when crossfire is concerned. so it could be a natural solution to some of the lame tactics out there.

    it could also open up new things aliens can do for mischief. imagine a parasite like attack that could send a marine out of control, shooting everything in sight, including his mates. that attack would be very easy to abuse but it shows what new stuff ff could bring.
