Video Mode Problems

<div class="IPBDescription">i cant seem to get a good mode to work</div> well i'm goin to put my sys stats..then the prob
video card: sis AG315-64
Memory Usage: 200/384MB (52.08%) Processor: 1-AMD Thunderbird, 1327MHz, 256KB (100% Load)
Sound card: VIA AC'97 Audio Controller (WDM)
OS: Windows 2000 pro
Directx: 9,1
any outher info plz ask

well the prob is..
when in 1000x700 software mode..
i got no map(at all so no alien sence map or marien map) no cross hair.. no teeth(when skulk) and on anouther setting (on software 800x600 and 640x450(or whatever)) all crosshairs are surrounded by a big black box!
the real prob is.. it keep jamming not the pc.. just the game.. then if i alt+tab the pc jamms.. so.. was woundering if anyone know ANYTHING to help out.. i realy love NS.. always have.. a great game.. and the fact i cant play for more then 1 hours and it laggs up or jamms is veary anoying..

oh and when connectingto a server it gives "missing botmap font: gfx\vgui\fonts\640_overwatchScheme.tga"
thats in software 640x450

    1000*700 ? Do you mean 1024*768?

    Also. Natural Selection is only compatible with OpenGL. Software mode barely works, and Direct3d doesn't show certain things correctly. I personally use Direct3D, only because my video card isn't compatible with OpenGl.

    Use direct3d or Opengl but DON'T use software mode

    well software works better for me.. realy.. opengl heh it just says my cand dont suport it.. and most of the jamming happends when in direct3d, all the missing stuff in software(and jamms less) so a pal (who i was playing with) said it was a memory prob.. that the pc cant handle everything.. well thats bull becasue i'v played NS many times befor with the sam pc.. and it was perfect...

    ok, NS's minimum requirements are anything not software mode.

    You won't beable to play as aliens (unless you fully bind the popupmenu choices to keys simply b/c it probably wont show up)

    I honestly suggest playing in OGL or D3D, this way we will know what problems we actualy can try and fix for you (anytihng software mode related we CAN'T fix)

    once you have done that (and gotten some good data), please post up EXACTLY what is wrong. Please try and make it clear, you first post is very hard to read. (note, try ussing the Phrase “NS freezes” instead of jamms)

    okay.. i'm going to be as clear as posible!
    i re-installed NS and HL just now.. and everything seems to be working fine.. EXEPT.. sometimes when i try to connect to a server after connecting to it the screen goes black.. ALL black.. and just stays that way until i hit random butons or ctl+alt+del .
    and NS freezes less now.. and the error that i said i get dont happen no more.. so it was just a install prob.. jusu need that black screen fixed.. any help would be helpfull <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    try doing a forum search (try like black screen), use the bottom right search

    I seem to remember this comming up before.

    do you get sounds?
    what hapens if you pres escape?
    do you use the internal server browser? (if so try ussing <a href='http://www.udpsoft.com/eye2' target='_blank'>ASE</a>)
