Member levels

We've already established that post count doesn't matter for how respected people are in the community, yet the member levels continue to reflect the opposite. I think it'd make more sense to have the member levels be based on the amount of time someone is registered with the forums. That way, people who have been here for a while but don't post very often are still recognized as the veterans they are.

I was under the impression that the NS team were developing a HL mod, not an Ikonboard hack. <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->

I've been with the community far longer than I have been registered. I just wouldn't get the same ammount of respect that I get on account of my post count.

*edit* I just realized I have virtually no posts. Sorry. *edit*

I was the 3rd person (note, person, not test account) to ever register for these forums, and somehow Mole still spams more than me <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

Well, that's because it's mole's job to spam the forums.

But seriously, would it be possible to base the member levels on time rather than post count? I'm just saying this because of the onslaught of idiots that I'm sure is coming soon, and I don't think it'd be appropriate for the n00b spammers to leave a lot of us middle-post-count regulars in the dust.

Yes, you should reward those who only post when they have somthing constructive to say!

Well, i don't think that post count should really matter too much, and your member level is just a self promoting thing.  I think it's fine, but thats just my opinion.

I think the member level should be fixed in the personal info. It just says: "<i>No ifermation entered</i>" exept if it is something special like "developer".

Though it doesn't matter (unless you're a fanatic) it's still a fun thing to poke around with, building up to the point where you...'evolve' next into a foul beast or a dark queen or whatever they are, whatever it is, it's nice building up to it.  But Bozo has an interesting point.  Sure, the date we joined is under our name, but something tells me that few people look at that.  It would be healthier for a few of us who post in sparse little bursts that have been around for alot longer than people that joined just yesterday who go around posting at every little thing and are already higher 'ranked' than these veterans are.  Sure it doesn't matter but it's nice to know the truth behind who is really just a beast, and who is a foul beast.

I really don't see the logic behind the rank thing in the first place. If you post regularly, great. More power to you. If you post every once and awhile, cool. If you post like once every 5 millenia, then uhmmm.....you probably have a life unlike me. Thats just my opinion though, so it isn't worth much.

umm...... if u have the respect of the rest of the ppl i think that its enough........
but the onslaught of n00bs could be killed by the mods and admins i think.....
maybe a mix of both things would be ok.... if u have posts u get the member level, and if ur an old member u get the member level too.......

I've always hated the post count/join date being displayed anywhere. Removing the post count would just start an 'elitist' group based on join date, however, so it wouldn't prevent any of the mess you are discussing. There are plenty of people on these boards that have little to no posts that have gained a great deal of respect, at least from me... so spamming means nothing. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

Ideed, ppl with post counts and join date like me just give mods a head ache,  <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo--> all be it the new generation is catching up to me, and that's scary.

Whats wrong with a Join date?  I rather have the Rank and Join date rahter than the post counts.

I can see the arguments against it.  I hate watching someone suddenly pass my number of posts in a matter of days with such insightful thoughts as, "cool," and nothing else posted in that thread.  Then again, those newbies quickly lose interest and find something else to occupy their time.

I don't see too much problem with the system as it is now.  But mine is but one vote.

Am I at Foul Best yet?
