Will ns run playable on slow computers?
I have a P2 Celeron 400 Mhz 196 Mbram Geforce 2 GTS (i know, with this slow computer i cant use this card completely - but why??? i dont know why tell me) and half-life runs very good with all mods.
but Ns looks too good for hl so i think it uses 10 times of normal hl polys, will it run playable on my pc???

It's not that the computer is too slow, but that the motherboard doesn't support the higher AGP spec that the Geforce2 GTS requires to work fully. I think your board has AGP 2x, and the GTS needs AGP 4x.
If you happen to have $94 lying around, I recommend that you get yourself a new motherboard, because that's really the only way to make the card perform to its full potential.
You call that slow? Heh.
The one im going to be playing NS on is a AMD 400mhz (upgraded from 233mhz), 328mb of ram, and a Voodoo3 3000 with 16mb. I'm lucky to get 25 fps in any mod (Im running at 640x480 in D3D)
back in the day(like a year ago)i was runing a 233 p1 with a voodoo 2 32 MBs of ram. you cant play cs on 32 MBs but i did

No, OpenGL lagged me too much. OpenGL gave me 100+ more ping then D3D and 10 less FPS.
I'd play DOD but it simply doesn't run better than 4 fps average, at any time. CS, on the other hand, runs smoothly for me 100%; usually fps of 10-25 which is fantastic for me. (300 mhz 128 meg ram (although that ram doesn't make a **** load of difference) and win98.)
Since DOD hasn't run well for me since version 3 or so, I haven't played it at all. It looks extremely fun, and I love realistic mods, but ever since I was unable to play it, I hated the DOD team for adding things I think were unimportant, or should have been togglable.
So, if I can't run NS on my machine either, I'll have to just say goodbye to it, regardless of how good the gameplay will be.
I have a new computer, it's lovely. But my first two weeks of playtesting were on the following system:
P2 266/WinME
320MB RAM
Voodoo Banshee
I got 30-35 FPS running around, which dropped to about 10 FPS in battle. I was running at 640x480.
It was playable, but not pretty. Your system ought to be fine.
iam a german and the last time i got a lan party with 16 ppl evrybody had a pentium 4 or amd athlon or duron (u know those high end system) with over 1 ghz but me. oh man i was lucky that they mainly played hl mods... because they had sof2 and gta3 runnin smooth on theirs at resolutions of 1600x1200. oh man i hate it that i have so poor parents. they never bought me a pc, i always bought that myself..
they get a dvd player if they want one, i dont have a video recorder and i dont get one if i want one! they have big tvs, i only a little thingy. they got bigger rooms than me oh man.... the only thing that is good is my free dsl connection, but dsl in germany is ####, u never get a ping under 100 ... oh u can download at more than 100 kbs but in those games like counter strike iam #### because of that. in lan i was the king with my little pc and evrybody thought: man this guy has skills, which would been even better if he had a better pc. but i hate counterstrike. it is tooo simple.
and whats about birthday??? they get motorcycles without paying anything... 5000 dollars (euro and dollars are at same). what do i get? a printer which my brother got because the other guy didnt need it. he bought a laserprinter. my mother and my brother bought a printercartridge ( cost: 30$ ) and this was it... no other things for the guy. (me)
hmmm ok i thought... then i would get something better when my secondary school exam is finished. but i got nothin. oh man i will shoot myself

OS: Win98
P3 - 400
128mb pc133
no-name sound chip
no-name vid chip
5gb hard drive
aaand a motherboard that sometimes forgets it has a USB port.
here's the computer I'm building
AMD Athlon XP 1600+
256mb PC2100
ASUS nForce 220 motherboard
built-in Dolby Digital 5.1
built-in Geforce2 MX (soon to upgrade, once my wallet recovers)
40gb hard drive
all for the low-low price of $650.

This is almost exactly what I have, other than 600mhz and 128mb RAM.
I was shocked and amazed when it ran SOF2 and GTA3.
(note I said *ran* not *ran in 160000X1100000 resolution with trilinear mip-mapping artifacting bump-mapping processing*)
it's for a 533mhz Celeron?
it's either an Intel 810 Graphics Controller or an Intel i815 eXtreme Graphics! chip.
Celeron 400 mhz
128 SDRAM
voodoo3 3k vidcard
6 GB HD (dont even wanna know what the RPM is)
DoD runs like crap, but CS does run very smoothly.
Hopefully NS will too.
If you are having trouble with you system being slow take the following basic steps to ensure that your system is operating at its maximum possible performance.
1. Get all the critical updates from the Microsoft website, some pertain to fixes regarding games or operating system performance, or prevent crashing.
2. Get the latest video card drivers from the people who make your video card, and NVIDIA owners SHOULD GET the detonator 4 drivers from the http://www.nvidia.com website, all ATI owners get the latest CATALYST drivers from http://www.ati.com, and all the voodoo owners get a new video card because 3dfx doesn't exist and the driver support is going down hill. A gamer with a voodoo is just asking for FPS pain and suffering in the future. Although, they should work ok with Half-Life, the drivers were teaked for HL not HL mods.
3. Find out who made your motherboard and download any new drivers concerning AGP ports, UDMA, or any other recommended update. Performance can really take a dive if your mobo drivers are out of date.
4. Flash your motherboard bios with the latest bios update THis can ruin your system if you do it wrong, so do some research, really I'm serious.
5. Read the tweak guides at http://www.tweak3d.net/tweak/ concerning how to get the best performance out of your operating system, some default windows settings stink for gaming and need to be changed.
6. Also read the HALF-LIFE tweak guide at http://www.tweak3d.net/tweak/ this includes tweaks for both half life pings and half life framte rates, this one can reall give you a boost if you take the time to read it.
7. Read the tweak guides, but be careful that you don't get in over you head, and read warnings and instructions carefully so you don't blow up your computer.
8. Do the smart thing, and if you're going to upgrade, find a hardware forum somewhere to ask all the wonderful hardware techs of this world like me to reccomend a good system setup so you don't get ripped off.
9. If you're going to buy computer parts, buy them from here, best prices on the web. http://www.pricewatch.com
if you have any questions about your hardware feel free to email me or PM me, or post here if you like, although if you post here I might not see it unless I visit this thread again.
and if your Mobo doesn't support AGP would suggesting getting a new Mobo that supports it.
64 megs RAM
nVidia Riva TNT 1
Now shuush
Well... I have a 486DX with 4mb of RAM! Just capable of running Doom (who needs Windows 9.x anyway?) this is cutting edge technology. Have hours of fun trying to make mysterious boot disks, drive yourself crazy over that missing mouse driver. Make your eyes glow red trying to install new software. Swear as you continually run out of disk space. See the graphical highs of Windows 3.1...
Seriously, I used this computer. Emphasising used. Those were the days...
Ahem. The one I use has a 450Mhz P3 with 128mb of RAM and a Riva TNT2 (plus a cable modem). Which runs Half-Life (and most mods) fine.
