<div class="IPBDescription">How did you defeat redemption oni?</div> 2.0 was playtested for ages and during that time I believe that at least one of the playtesters or veterans chose redemption on an onos. Now, the simple question is: during testing, what tactics did the marines use to take them down?
I don't want this to be a "redemption is overpowered/balanced/too weak/OMG YOU CAN'T KILL THE PWNOS!? ROFLAMO NUB GG NO RE!" thread. Please just stick to the topic: tactics for taking down redemption oni. If a non playtester or non veteran person has a tactic that seems to work, by all means post it.

There are, basically, 2 cases:
1) Early onos with redemption. It is an annoyance, yet with good teamwork, this onos can't cause severe damage as it's redeeming away before doing any serious harm. Marines have enough rts and can tech up while aliens have 1(2) hive(s). Aliens can't bring up many oni because they don't control the map and thus don't have much res. So marines can easily push on a hive (asap) and contain that onos with teamwork. If the onos decides to attack the base, stacked mines do wonders. The redemption onos does a good job in harassing marines, but fails in defending the hives. So if marines are able to pressure the hive, the onos becomes redundant.
2) Marines have a hard time to secure areas and are can't move out nor attack. Redemption oni come up and make it even harder for marines to do so, yet they're not the decisive factor. Marines have lost long before that onos came up. But because that onos keeps redeeming all the time, aliens need quite a while to finish marines off, so the game it dragged out. But marines didn't lose due to the redemption onos, they lost because they let the aliens expand to quickly and couldn't compete in the tech-race.
So you see, redemption onos is only an annoyance when the game is over already. If marines can seriously compete with the alien team, then a single redemption onos isn't allmighty. It's still strong, but I would argue that a regen/celerity onos is a way much better unit, in every case.
like eggmac said though 10 mines stacked on top of each other will kill an onos instantly.
Wait until the onos gets into your base, and starts attacking a turret
Then have everyone fire as many shotgun blasts into it as fast as they can.. It shouldnt be able to run, especially if you have people near the doors
It takes like... only 25 hits to kill an Onos with knife. Knife does a LOT of damage...
23 hits actually. Though I find it doesn't work fast enough to kill a redemptionos. Stacks of mines, and a shotgunner guarding important points is enough to make instant work of a redmeption onos. Hell, enough mines will kill it instantly, without giving it a chance to redeem.
Just don't be near it when a gorge waddles by.
As for the onos, I like onos with redemption. He's effectively loosing 25% of his health and some armor...
Early game, redemption Onos are really bad, because bases are relatively weak, and mostly the marines have LA. Onos can rack up kills (getting resources for himself) and destroy the base (losing resources for the rines) while he is essentially invincible. This means the rines can't get resources from killing aliens anymore simply because it's impossible to kill them. Remember RFK is a substantial part of the rine economy... and of course, resource towers will quickly fall to an alien team with one or more Onos.
Additionally, you MUST have simultaneous damage to the Onos in order to kill him, which is nigh impossible (give or take some luck).
The mine stack that's been mentioned several times.
Any concentrated heavy weapons fire.

Anyways, the idea is that redeem Onos are never a problem. You didn't kill em, so what? You now have 2 minutes breathing space. As you advance towards the hives, then yes, redeem Onos might be a worry. This is why you need good teammwork, good comm, and some turrets here and there.
Actaully, 100 level 0 LMG bullets takes down a carapace-less onos...
As a matter of fact people getting even 50 percent accuracy is rarely seen.
