    /me hands crackpipe.

We're doing about 2.0GB in and about 1.3GB out (on average) per day.

The NS server is shared with about 3 other servers, but they generate minimal traffic, so we're accounting it all to the NS server.

The ration of bandwidth is roughly 3:2 as IN:OUT and we're running an 18 man server.

    <i>Pebbs</i>

    EDIT: me takes back crack pipe and fixes the numbers... it's not 20 it's 2.0... <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

dude you guys need to learn more about linux before you start talking this and that. Linux basically does something with cpu usage that is basically like... well overhead. it processes and saves cpu usage for the next process thread or whatever. it also does this with memory. Its probably only using like 5% cpu :/

    Ctrl+Alt+F2 . Login. $bash: top

I know this and that about linux. Btw, doing atl+f2 uses about 10ms of latency in the kernel space. You better off using and SSH session. Linux does not preempt process time unless you patch it to do so.

Yes, we've all used top before. Did you know that you can reduce latency by using Robert Loves variable HZ patch? It allows the userspace to have a seperate timing scheme than the kernel's space. It is controllable by just using export HZ=500 or like, whatever.

What's Linux? And can I buy it at the drug store?

    I just installed NS2.01d on 3.1.1.0 on a fresh slackware 9.0, P4 2.4ghz xeon

18 players and its using 80% Cpu usage, that can't be right.

Yes that level of usage is right - I just posted up in another forum thread in this section so I wont repeat myself. Go read the posting below and the links contained within for details on the CPU and lag issues in half life. Its regarding another query but the answers are still relevant to your comment.

I know about the problems with HLDS, but NS still does use more CPU than other HL mods.
I also forgot to mention the CPU usage I posted was for pingboost 3, sys_ticrate 200 without pingboost the CPU usage is considerably less, averaging about 50% when full.

I realise NS is a far more complex mod than most if not all other mods, so im not necessarily complaining/whining, just adding a post to the thread to help it be read <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Thats amazing,
Can you give us some more info on your setup?
Distro? Pingboost 1/2/3 ? HZ kernel fix?
Which kernel version as well... im thinking of swithing a box over to 2.6.x <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
