What if... airlocks...

<div class="IPBDescription">An idea fer mah map.</div>Would it play well for there to be roughly 6 airlocks, which take about 5-6 seconds to pass through, in certain junctions around the map? I think this would slow down the progression of both sides, making it a bit more tactical.

If answer to first is "Yes," would it also play well to have a "Purge" button, which would turn on a trigger_hurt inside the airlock? There'd be one of these on each exit of the airlock. Basicly, someone, if he thinks that there's an enemy coming through the lock, can push the button and kill everything inside, or at least severely damage it..

Good idea? Bad idea?

hmm... could be interesting, it would add a new dmiesnion to the gameplay, one thing i'd try to make sure of if i were you, is to keep the purge buttons out of view from the actual airlocks, so that people can't just camp by the button and push it every time someone walks through...

I just realized that the commander could listen for the sound, and if he diddnt see marines in teh lock, could purge it and kill all the aliens inside...

I don't think it'll be going in, maybe somewhere else, low traffic area or something, but yeah..

I think ns_freon has some airlocks. So yeah, it's possible, if not exactly original...

Might #### people off a bit, also why would you need an airlock between internal compartments of a ship?

    I dunno, could work :x

You don't have airlocks inside a ship, you have blast doors, if decompression is what you're guarding against. Maybe the ship could have blast doors at strategic points that marines would have to open each time they tried to get past, slowing them but not overly so. perhaps the ceiling could be constructed so that bobs need not hit the buttons, and needless to say blinkies wouldn't be slowed by the doors

it would definitely make the game less tactical to have airlocks and more strategic - it would all be about planning to have your opponent be stuck in an airlock and you with your claws or guns trained on them while they're all caught up. it might be good, but there's a slim chance of that

Note: the Level4 CANNOT BLINK THROUGH DOORS/WALLS.  This has changed from the original idea.  As of now, he can blink anywhere he can *see*... this includes blinking through tight places.

Hera has two large, weldable blast doors separating Reception from the rest of the map.

make a spaceship. make two airlocks that leads to two trains that leads to two new airlocks on a new spaceship. that haven't been done before, eh?

Coil: From what I can gather, the Level 4 blinks to the first solid in his L.O.S.  Doors are not solids, so I think he an go through doors and entities, then stop at the first solid brush.

Not to sure about that though...

If this was the case, Freestyler, I think the lvl4 could get stuck very easily. I for example often make pipes or stairs entities. If a lvl4 would blink towards the pipes he would stop at the wall behind the pipes, getting stuck in the pipes, if they are close to the wall, or behind them.
Then again, I don't have a clue how it really is in game, but I trust the devs to be smart enough to think of this, since I do not, as MonsE once stated "think the devs are utter and complete idiots".

If you were to do that legionnaired, it might be an idea to have them as glass walkways between ships, if you think that would be possible...

Sure it's possible.. I decided to hold off on my NS map for a while, work on a Firearms one until my mapping skill improves.
