how about them bots?where i get um?and will i ll be able to practise comming with bots(so human players wont get all pissy about bad comm)

I think that's better to practice with real people.

To learn everything about the commanding console, create a LAN game and use sv_cheat 1 (I don't think it's like this the cheat. Something similar) which will allow you to play alone.

Then, when you feel safe enough to go on real games, tell the team you have no experience in commanding (better than saying u r new <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'> ) to commanding and ask if you can try it out. If they don't allow it, look for a server where the team allows you. But that shouldn't be a problem, since most people are quite friendly (at least when I play)

Well, I never practised with bots. The most important thing is to learn the theory (learn the tech tree, learn the maps, have a good grasp of basic commander strategy) and to reasonably good at real time strategy games.

Don't be afraid to hop in the chair and give it a go. There's currently a severe shotage of commanders (at least, on the servers I play on there is), so chances are nobody else will volunteer. Make it clear beforehand that you're a newbie, and that if nobody else wants to you'll command.

But I have to stress that commanding is not for total newbies. If you're still getting used to NS itself, and still learning what the actual structures do, commanding is not a good idea. Fortunately, it's relatively easy to learn this stuff offline.

Having said that, do a search for "cheats" and you'll find console cheat codes you can use offline to practise building stuff.

Honestly, I think you should just do as these guys said and go commander on a pub. What I would recommend before doing this is, of course, going through the manual (to find out what does what and how you do it), going over some tactics in the <b>Frontiersmen Strategy</b> department, and making sure your mic works - it's vital. Also be sure to tell your teammates that you're a first timer and ask them to be helpful and patient with you. Most pub players are good people and don't mind taking the time for you to learn the ropes.

What ever happened to resonable bots taking proper control of the comms chair? Surley they cant be THAT smart but if there was some kind of special add-on for that part...

Firstly, you can't do that without cheats. You have to reconnect. Some servers are aware of this so stop you from reconnecting to the same game. This can be found when your connection fails and your team is yelling down your chat program things like 'WTH ARE YOU COMM???'...

As for playing against real players, hmm. I wouldn't mind a newbie comm having a go on my team, but some ppl would.

As for a way to avoid alien being lame, RIGHT-CLICK, Up, Left. Get all marines to do it.
Either the commadner will be ejected or you'll find yourself in the ready room if i've got left/right commands messed up. <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'>
