My Model

<div class="IPBDescription">I know, its not NS Related,</div> Ok, before i start - Yes, this is one of the 3DSMax tutorial models, and yes, i realise it aint NS related, but its a model, so its here.

I actually did this a while ago, and have decided to have a go at adding my own things to it... So i can have a practice playing around with the editor.

So far what ive done is smooth certain areas of it, i.e. the tail fin, the leading edge of the wings, the engines, and a bit around the nose.. I've also added some winglets to the end of the wing...

Any one got any ideas as to what i could add to it?

[edit] Its currently weighing in at 929 faces (im assuming thats 3dsmax's term for polies), and, when done, some one could be able to use it somewhere on a map [/edit]

    I was thinking of adding some weaponary to it, just not sure what.... Itll probably get stuck in the typical fighter position tho: under the wings...

    thats where i assumed. Also add a rotary gun, under the nose. that would be cool

    quick question do you thing of this as a fighter aircraft that =fits like two people or more of a bomber/support air craft thats not that fast?
    cuz if its a fighter a rotary gun wouldnt suit it for example you dont see a jet fighter witha rotating cannon under it you see more on helicopters

    If I recall correctly, "faces" in Max can be 3, 4, 5 sided, whatever. While you could describe these as "polys" , the HL engine is going to break all these into triangles to display them, so the actual polycount <i>could</i> be way higher than that.

    Number of triangles is what you need to be counting.

    Ok, thanks for that tip Hamster.. i just looked and it doesnt say anything about triangles tho (right-click>properties on the model), but that may well be elsewhere.

    So far ive added a couple of missiles to the underside of the wings. I've attached the missiles to the wings by extruding the top of the missile, as its was much easier than to extrude the underside of the wing.

    goto utilities (the lil hammer on the right), click on more, a pop up, select polygon counter and press ok....

    you MUST add smooth groups ro round surfaces.

    "FACES" in 3dsmax can be squares and n-bordered flat surfaces when its an "editable poly" and no "editable mesh".

    Thanks for the tip Reppyboyo, but that shows the same as the "faces" does in object properties (now 1449)

    As for a front mounted cannon/minigun/whatever, im considering trying to do what they do with aircraft, and sink one into the front/side/where-ever

    [edit] Like so: (the purple bit being the cannon... i wasnt sure where else to put it, as to sink it in, that means altering a LOT of the model, making it look like one side of it had been caved it, which wouldnt quite look right) [/edit]

    Is it is now, it's kind of hard to believe that it is in fact, aerodynamic, make the tail higher and sharper, also fix the nose, it looks kind of misplaced.... and if you really want an unconventional missile position (or minigun) it could be on both sides of the spine (on the top).. but that could negate it's usability on maps etc...

    right, heres what ive managed to do again, so far.

    Ive made the tail fin larger, and ive moved the cannon position, to the side.

    So far its weighing in at just under 2000 faces.

    If you had taken the time to read my first post, you would realise i dont intend it to replace anything, but it could be used in a map somewhere. This is just me practicing/messing around with 3ds Max.
