Case mod

Feedback and ideas/help
WEll.... here it goes

I'm gonna mod my case.

I've decided upon a heavymetal theme (not goth!!!! ) I've got the paint for the outsides figured out a flat lightly textured black on the front, and it fades into a concrete rough textured black for the tops and sides. the inside is going to have the same black as the front. I've got about 30 metal spikes of various sizes that I'm going to put on the sides of the case (awww! she's not going to be so cuddly anymore....) going to put in a window, my bud had made his own case window, so I don't need a kit for that, just $5 worth of lexan from teh hardware store and some time borrowing his tools. I've got some black flexable conduit that I'm going to have around my exposed power wires, and I'm going to put in the black round IDE cables. I was hoping to get a whole bunch of chrome screws so that you've have the black with silver highlights as the color theme. I've got a modded skull which I'm using as my breaklight in my car (eyes light up when you hit the breaks) that I'm going to paint chrome and re-route my power and HD lights into its eyes for an exra evil effect. all that is set in stone

Lighting is what I really need feedback/ideas on. I want to go with red lights, as the LEDs on my motherboard are red already.... I have about 15' leftover flexable lightup wire leftover from when I did my car's interior, so I was hoping to use that on the conduits (have the transformer draw from a 12v fan supply) I also want a 12' red light in the bottom too, but... cold cathode, or plasma (looks like it has lightning in it)

oh, and here's what I'm doing for fans and shiznit (as my original plan was just to mod my case for lots of xtra cooling.) my box is a mid tower BTW

1 80mm 80 cfm exhaust fan blowing out from under the power supply
2 120mm 135 cfm fans mounted in the window blowing across my CPU, GFx card, cound card, etc. etc
1 120mm 135 cfm fan mounted on the box's side opposite the window to cool my Hard drives
and 1 80mm 80cfm exaust fan on the front, next to the PC speaker

I'm also thinking of painting the fan blades chrome, leaving off grills on them, and having a "caution bites" sign on my case

whaddyall think? anything that I'm doing that'll completely fuxor my computer? I'm open to ideas on lighting (no external lights thou, just internal)

when my parts arrive and I finish building this I'll post pics for you all.

Painting the fans'd be cool, and if you do that, might as well get the red LEd to put IN the fan

Sounds good, im not ure about the spikes, or the lack of grills, but then again, im more of a classical guy

Have fun, post pics when done!

painting the fan would not work that well
beocuse of the high RPM it will be a blur of colour(s)

you can make a fangrill out of plexiglass and place leds in it to make the grill glow

wow, case modding seems to be growing in popularity lately...

i'm planning something kinda simmilar, but much simpler, i'm just going to make a window, but with some funky shapes and some lights inside... i've got a design sketched out on the computer, but i need to wait untill next week when i get paid to be able to buy the materials...

and i'll probably paint it too, but i'm not sure what color, i'll have to think about it... probably silver or green, maybe black...

Wow, case modding is cool, I think I put a window in mine and a neon cold cathode.
    Thats nuff for first.

    Update:

I've gone ahead with the painting and spikes... looks pretty lee7, like something from the depths of hell. I just need to touch up areas aroudn buttons on CD-roms and shiznit where I was afraid to spray over. I got some spikes ON the CD-rom drives I also need a good way to transition from the black of the fron to the black concrete of the sides.... I was thinking of a fade effect, but am unsuyre of how to go about that, or even if it would be effective with textured spray paint....

The window was a PAIN IN THE ###.... see... everyone sells a window kit where "all you have to do is cut the hole and put it in" well... rob was kind enough to help me with that, only... after spending about 15 minutes an inch with the damned dremel tool, we decided to borrow a friend's band-saw- using that took a total of 5 minutes. (after about 4 hours of screwing around with the dremel)

Right now I'm looking at pimprig.com... now I'm seriously thinking of painting my cards... only.... yea, sounds very risky... thou I will definately put that neon-trim along the edge of each card... just need to figure out a system of connectors for easy disconnects to the transformer. probably going to go with a series of modded 2-pin connectors by each of the screws and running all those wires to a central hub and from there to the transformer... possibly I may drill holes for the wires on the motherboard side and have all the wiring hidden.... (note to self: wiring neon trim is pain in the ### get plenty of b33r..)

I remember seeing somewhere a plasma tube- looked like it had colored lightning in it, but I don't think it's called a plasma tube, 'cause I can't find them again... I'm wondering how much heat one of those puts out, and if it's pretty low, I may go with one of those instead of a cold cathode.

the window looks tight....I left 1.5" all around the edge of the side, have two very nicely aligned holes for the 120mm 135cfm fans, and the screwholes (exept for two- damn drill) don't go all the way though the lexan, and it has a very professional look to it WITHOUT having that rubber edge (the wavyness to the sides actually goes well with my heavy metal theme, but my bud's gonna go with a mega-man theme, and we're looking at blue tinted glass with hellow rubber trim.)

oh, a note on people painting drives and power-supplies... tape off holes so you don't get paint inside them (duh! ) we took my powersupply apart, and put acrdboard behind all the grills so we could pain them, but I'm thinking of going over the grills with a "mirror paint" in some kind of pattern- probably an abstract weave like on celtic ruins...

Right now I'm still hesitating on the skull for HD and power lights... finding a way to attatch it without looking tacky is hard, and I'm contemplating building a spinal chord for the wires. I'm still trying to figure out a way to attach the sucker in a way that will be hidden... Grrr....

the little rectangle that everyone has on the front currently sports a AMD XP sticker, but once I get some mad router/dremel skills, I'm going to cut that out and put a piece of plexiglass in there with a mentagram made out of that neon trim that is inside the glass (hence the mad dremel skills for cutting grooves)

so many Ideas!!!!! I can't wait for my round IDE cables and fans to arrive. should be tomorrow or saturday.

oh! I need help!!! my Live! Drive is still the stock colors (bone white with grey lettering) as I don't want to paint over the lables and shiznit (I know what they are, but they aren't raised and not having them labeled would look unprofessional). I want to paint it black, but am not sure of a good (and accurate) way of re-labling the inputs and outputs afterwards. any suggestions on how will be greatly appreciated.

once agian, I'll post pics as soon as I can

all right here' a pic of the front.... you can see where the tape was over the puttons, and where I did a quick finger wipe on the Adrive when I realized I forgot to tape over the light after I sprayed it... I'm gonna need to do some touchup work. note the spike ON the CD rom drive... gotta be careful opening that sucker, it'll poke an eye out.

ahh now for the side.... you can see the 120mm holes that are drilled. there's some black conduit that's covering up the mother board's power supply. also the same is hiding the wires for all the shiznit on the front. in one or two days I'll be getting black, round IDE cables, so that grey apple II plus crapola IDE will be history. also... note the black wire wraps around the power wires.... well... because it's a wire wrap as opposed to a conduit, you can see some of htat shiznit pokeing through... the conduit's WAY too large to use for the power wires, so I'm thinking of going ghetto and doing a black-tape mask-up all aroudn teh wire wraps... notice that I painted my CPU fans normally copper colored top cage with a black "hammered metal finish" paint. it looks ub3r l337

also in this picture you can see a little paint ship mark on the top edge- you can thank a stray b33r bottle jumping off a table for that. also... because of the thick textured nature of the paint (and it's pain in the ###-wanting not to stick no matter how well you prime the case nature) there's definate bone-white porders between each of teh plates that make up my case.

(not the otehr side and back are not potographed, but imagine that concrete texture and spikes covering the other side (top too) and the back the same sand-textured black as the front)
I want to do some kind of transition between the flat-sand textured black of the front and the concrete black of the sides, but I'm not sure what.... I'm wondering about getting a stencil and (with the case assmebled) spraying some kind of design in the flat black that will overlap a little beyond the edge and then go off on the sides and top. I started off not wanting this to turn into a goth theme, but just stay heavy metal, but... I saw Marylin manson's video for tainted love (BTW... what he did to that car is almost exactly what I want to do to a '67 corvette when I get my enlistment bonus after college), and am thinking gotic designs now, not just black studded leather...

OOOOOOOOooooo Idea!!!!!! have some black flames like on a hotrod made out of black leather... then pierce them with some of my old barbells and shiznit and attach loopy chrome chains.... and it'll double as a handle!!!

    word... that sounds... l337.

I'm a gonna show up at the next LAN and people are gonna crawl in a corner and hide from my case >:}~ <--- evil guy with goatee)

Got the fans in... seems that i've got so much going INTO my case that air is getting out through ANY hole in my case, including the floppy drive.... and that's despite the 80cfm (55Db LOUD MIGHT I ADD!!!! I'M GOING DEAF NOW!!!!&#33 exhaust fan.... oh... and even though I now have two 135cfm fans blowing directly on my CPU in addition to a dragon orb whatahve you system (top of the line cpu fan system when I got it) my processor STILL says it's sitting at 135F (about 55C), when my friend who has less powerful fans and shiznit is sitting at 96F (er.... 40c?) I'll post more pics later, as I painted the fans and have started measuring out the leather.
