Aerobatic Flight
<div class="IPBDescription">yay watch me showoff</div> I need to show these to someone, I figure its best not to try and show off to the people I know, instead I'll do it to the people I've never seen before!
So here's my favorite Hobby. Aerobatic Training. I got my private pilots license in February, when I worked up enough money in July I took a Basic Aerobatics course. With my sister's Digital Camcorder and help of my instructor I was able to take snapshots.
(there would be a movie, but thanks to my sister's MAC, it will be a little while)
This is the plane I fly, a Grob Bavarian. 2 Seater, low wing, fully aerobatic, can pull up to 6 G's (factory rated).
<img src='http://tuzakey.com/~roach/pictures/aerobat/grob1.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>
<img src='http://tuzakey.com/~roach/pictures/aerobat/grob2.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>
Me:
<img src='http://tuzakey.com/~roach/pictures/aerobat/steve1.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>
<img src='http://tuzakey.com/~roach/pictures/aerobat/steve2.jpeg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>
The Grob is a little underpowered for a aerobatic plane, so before each maneuver, we're required to put it in a dive that hits 130-140kts.
<img src='http://tuzakey.com/~roach/pictures/aerobat/dive.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>
Then for the Loop:
<img src='http://tuzakey.com/~roach/pictures/aerobat/vertical.jpeg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>
This was the top of it.
<img src='http://tuzakey.com/~roach/pictures/aerobat/upsidedown2.jpeg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>
And one more picture for the spin. Its hard to make out whats happening, in short: A spin is when you stall the plane in a way that makes it Fall in a Spiral.
<img src='http://tuzakey.com/~roach/pictures/aerobat/spin.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>
Coming out of the loop I pulled 4 G's. The most I've pulled was 5.6. Its pretty cool how your vision gets fuzzy.
<img src='http://tuzakey.com/~roach/pictures/aerobat/4gs.jpeg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>
Edit: I was finally able to get the video so here it is! Its in .avi format 15 megs with sound too.
<a href='http://tuzakey.com/~roach/movies/aerobat.avi' target='_blank'>http://tuzakey.com/~roach/movies/aerobat.avi</a>
In the video first comes the Spin, to do a spin, it starts with a Power-Off Stall (which means throttle idle) once the plane stalls I kicked the rudder to the left and held it there, after 3 rotations comes the recovery into a loop. Theres other maneuvers I do, I'll post those in a complete video, maybe add in some music and make the quality a little higher. Enjoy!
