At least the system wasn't crashing yet... still at 40fps.
And nobody's forcing you to use or even look at them.
You know that when you have a giant mass of turrets they block each other's fire, right? The closer they are together, the bigger the blindspot it causes.
and.. to the guy talking about 8 turrets being "excessive", that doesn't answer the question. He didn't ask "what's your personal opinion on having too many turrets?".. or.. "how many turrets does it take to make them block each other?". =P
He wanted to know how many it took to "fill up" a turret farm.. you know.. to make it full.. so building more is impossible... get it? =P

Blech, I remember playing with laser metamod server on 1.04...
You'd be running down a hallway, and suddenly see a ton of laser lines pointing where you were going.
Kinda takes the skill out of the game...
