Medpack Spamming

Annoying kids using stupid tactics
Just had this happen to me on "Roobs *No time for muppets*" server (totally awful server by the way).

Forgot the map name cos I hardly ever play on it - the one with the Furnace. I was a lerk and the marines were crossing the bridge so I used spores against them combined with spears. They got me down to say 60 health before retreating behind some boxes, and asking for medpacks. As well as the comm topping them up, he spammed a nice line of say ten or twelve medpacks all the way across the bridge to try and take me out. The marines followed it shooting, disregarding how many times I hit them as they knew their health would be replenished. The sad thing is they still failed as I got away in time. I asked what the commander was playing at before receiving a loads of abuse from "^NuT^RabbitCatcher" who tried to get me banned with the help of his admin pals. The amusing thing is I went back to their base and killed the NuT member, the only thing he could say was "nice"

The same thing also happened to me in BarryServer -=CBX.net=-, in which the commander spammed literally 30 to 40 medpacks for a single marine to build a phase-gate so they could take our only hive. He lasted for almost two minutes right outside our hive - on one occasion I watched three skulks attack this single marine with no armour and they couldn't take him out, in the end an onos digested him.

I'd like to see something done about this. I'm not gonna shout "don't do this", for now I can't do much about as it's possible in any server. But maybe in later releases, maybe the marines were only allowed to use medpacks once every ten seconds, this would get rid of this pathetic tactic. I'm sure other players here have experienced this and would like to share their thoughts.

Maybe if medpacks were free you might add the limit for 1 every 10 seconds. However they do cost resources now, 2 res/each which is pretty much for a team with only 1 or 2(including starting rts) rts. If a team can afford to medspam as you put it 10-20 medpacks they deserved it. Only issue with medpack spamming as I see it was in 1.04 where 2hld early game would totally ruin the game along with mp-spamming making it impossible for the aliens to stop it.

*shrugs* As far as I'm concerned, it's a valid tactic. It costs loads of res for the marines, so as such there is a penalty for doing it.

I think it is a valid tactic, cost a lot of res, for example the 30 -40 packs would of cost 60 - 80 res if the comm thinks that is worth keeping one 'rine alive then he can do it.

Flayra has said that medspam will stay.

I can totally agree on that point. Using medpackspam efficiently, commander must have skill to drop medpacks directly to marine or waste lots of res.

If teams are about even in skill, marines can't afford to toss 20 medpacks for nothing. Lots of medpacks means less upgrades or structures and that leads to alien victory. I love medspam even when I am an alien. I don't hear anybody whining here that there shouldn't be possibility to build 2 CCs near each other. That is completely waste of res.

Still newbie coms drop this and that from time to time.

    It is a valid tactic.

And why are you complaining if it didn't even cost you a death? It can't be such a bad thing if the marines failed on both occaissions. Sounds pretty balanced to me.

Medpack spam is part of the game, it costs marines resources and as the others said - it takes some skill to accurately drop medpacks on peoples heads.

I play on both those servers you mentioned and I think they are both pretty good servers with a good level of play. In short "rickey", STHU NOOB

    1) valid tatic
    2) The simple fact of the matter is that no server will suit 100% of people. I wonder if your dislike of the server is due to the intolerance of muppets on it perhaps? It certainly seems to be the case that every time you open your mouth, some idiot speaks...

I was present at the time, and let's just say your version of events seems to differ somewhat with, oooh, everyone else who was playing at the time. Medspam is possibly annoying (although valid and still possible to kill people being spammed) but I didn't see any "loads of abuse" from Rabbitcatcher and his trying to get you banned with the help of his admin pals was, I believe, when he said "Someone ban this guy, he's a muppet". Furthermore, when killed he complimented you on the kill.

In fact, despite being a continual annoyance, for example, using the server as some sort of IRC device to extoll the virtues of Metallica, the worst that has happened to you so far has been a kick and the use of admin_gag. Of course, this could well change as Roo can be a bit funny about people slagging off his server, misreporting events and dreaming up stories of admin abuse and cliques.

It's called the truth. And on that one occasion everyone was talking about music, and we were having fun playing and talking, even the admins. "Muppet", lol - why do I get the mental picture of high school kids all of a sudden? Even sadder is the fact you get off on shouting "Muppet" behind the safety of your monitor because you can't do it in real life. Sad. I have no respect for a bunch of admins who think they're "all dat" cos they have a bunch of friends who frequent the server and ****-lick each other at every opportunity. If I wanted to see that I'd watch the Bravo channel. And don't worry I won't be coming to your server again because, as you have proved in front of everyone here it's full of "muppets" GG

    Smart kid.

    1) Medspam's a valid tactic. It can be difficult to do well, it's extremely costly in terms of resources, and it requires the commander's undivided attention. I truly fail to see how it's a problem when in both of your scenarios, the aliens "won."

    2) Mocking someone for complimenting you on a good kill? Most good players and good *people* I know play on servers like Roo's precisely *because* they get complimented for skillful playing. I remember one of the only times I ever played CS... my team was getting destroyed consistantly, and *one* round I ended up being the last left alive and killed the last remaining player on the other team with a nice long-range pistol headshot... did I get a "nice shot"? No, I got "nice wallhack." I'll be heading back there next time I feel like being insulted.

    3) Don't bash servers. The End.
