There is no elite combo, that makes pheremones a fantastic upgrade. The only thing it is good for, is seeing where the marines *have been*, which is quite unuseful compared to knowing where they *are* with Scent of Fear. I used them once, it was good being able to follow the marine in a dark passagem otherwise hard to tell where he was, but when i finally got him the greenish thing wouldn't allow me to see him well hehe. I prefer SoF also.
Personally i think pheremones would have been better if they had been more like a blood trail, leaving glowing green splats on the ground to follow. the cloud just obscures the combat as it seems to be given off at waist hight.
I've only used it like, once. I don't even remember how it works..
