Writing Skillz

have they gotten better?
Hey
Is it just me or does typing a lot on the internet in discussion and game forums help you become a better writer?
I guess all that loitering over the computer didn't have to many dentrimental effects...
What are your thoughts and opinions? Feel free to talk about other stuff, like how writing has degraded over time and whatnot. Do you guys have any tips to becoming a better writer, for example: where to put different types of "unused" punctuation properly?
YAY for 100+ hours wasted!!!

900 is 9:00, not "at 900 hours".
I believe the only way to become a better a writer is to write more correctly. Classes such as AP Literature (if you're in high school) help quite a bit with the in-class essays one would do in there. However, to become better at expressing on what you want to say, you should read more. It's sad to see that many people in my generation (who are in my area) don't read much. However, I believe that books are making a comeback because I see more kids everyday at Barnes and Noble searching the adult book section rather than the children section.
Read more and write more. It helps =}.
Friend: "Well at least my grammer has improved online."
Me: "Unfortunately your spelling hasn't."
It does if you refrain from reading what lazy morons try to pass off as legible and coherent writing. That sort of prevalent garbage has a tendency to rub off on you.

In my opinion, satire is a great way to write. It catches the reader and compells them to read what you have to say.
you spelled "wrongly" uncorrectly

Seriously, last I checked, I was over the 80 WPM mark without looking at they keyboard, and like Smoke, I automatically go back and correct my words without thinking. Of course, sometimes you're typing so fast that you get a few words in before you start hitting delete, but that's the way it works I guess. When I'm writing a paper or a story or something, I never want to have to take my hands off the keyboard to touch the mouse and go back, so I usually just delete crap until I get to the mistake and retype it all, or leave it for MSWord to catch.
And the day the internet improves writing skills is the day I eat a shirt. I've seen perfectly smart, normal people who write comprehensive English papers go on the internet and say "hi 2u , wuht r u doing 2moro."
The only time I ever see puncuation and capitalization online now are in some forums - AIM, IRC, whatever, you're lucky to even read a complete sentence.
