Well i just instaled the brand new hlds steam installer <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
To anyone that wants the server software it can be downloaded from here
The dedicated server has been released
Official: <a href='ftp://hlserver:hlserver@ftp.valvesoftware.com/' target='_blank'>ftp://hlserver:hlserver@ftp.valvesoftware.com/</a>
Mirror: <a href='http://128.119.27.194/server/' target='_blank'>http://128.119.27.194/server/</a>
For win32 clients you simply run the update program from your server folder e.g. the same folder with hlds.exe and then run the hldsupdatetool.exe froma command prompt to setup an admin account.
Otherwise this release is exactly like any other HLDS apart from it coems with a update facility and needs a user account. There is no steam client thing needed just the normal hlds.exe being run as normal.
However, i recommend you do not patch your existing install yet as until the steam client is out no-one can connect to your server

Since ns doesn't work, has anyone updated the valve game, or is it a waste of time?

As mentioned last week, the Steam beta is now ending. The beta system will be offline at 5:30 PDT.
A dedicated game server will be released later this evening, and the full Steam client will be released tomorrow (Wednesday) at 11:00 am PDT.
We would like to thank all of the Steam users who have helped us test Steam over the past few months -- your help has been invaluable. We hope you continue to enjoy Steam and all of Valve's games.
So thats why my beta doesn't work.
I think you can use the "valve" option and It will download the HLDS (i am doing it now as i post this)
