I am extreamly pleased with your call on changeing the forums, they run so much smoother now <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://66.78.33.98/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo--> I often found myself waiting for 5 mintues for a topic to come up but now it only takes a few secounds. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://66.78.33.98/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo--> I just keep loving this mod and its comunnity more and more, now it will be eaiser for me to give my 2 cents. I suspect that is what was lagging the Ultraboard system.

Actually, if you go visit the <a href="http://66.70.175.88/cgi-bin/UltraBoard/UltraBoard.cgi" target="_blank">Old Forums</a> right now, you'll find that they are still slow as frozen molasses. The problem performance on these boards isn't usually the ammount of data (there isn't all that much , compared to a business system with million of rows); it's the hardware, circuit, and backend tuning.
Well, the old server was less powerful, shared by many more websites than just NS, and was on a super slow circuit. It also used a backend database we couldn't really tune or control. So we couldn't reindex data, compress, or archive anything. Pretty gross. Many HUGE forums operate in a similar configuration as us - consider CS. We will be nice and fast for years to come, trust me. When I'm not pimping NS, I'm building computer networks.
Don't worry guys, Monday is my final exam and I have the whole week+weekend off! I will finally get them done!
