What Key Setup Do You Use?

WSAD, ESDF, arrows or other?
What key setup do you use?

Personally WSAD is the easiest, allowing easy access to most of the keyboard, so more keys and more binds.

I cant use arrows to save my life, as it is too cramped and you cant use anything BUT the arrows.

I use qwes. I mean you're going to be moving forward and strafing more than you walk backwards so keep em on one line.

I am the weirdest person when it comes to fps games. I use mouse1 for backward, mouse2 for forward, ctrl for fire, alt for alternate fire, z and x for strafe, c for crouch, and qweasdfr for misc stuff.

I guess it started back in quake when I didn't use the mouse, I used the same set up except I used the arrows to move. Then I had this friend that recommended using the mouse. He had fire as mouse1 and forward as mouse2. I asked him how he moved backwards and he said he just turned around and walked forward. Well I didn't like that so I moved mouse1 to backward and kept fire on ctrl. Anyone out there have a setup remotely like mine?

One thing I like about my config is it allows me to be accurate with weapons like the pistol because I'm not tapping the mouse button to fire fast, I'm tapping the ctrl button, so the mouse can remain steady (small thing really).

ESDF since I feel I can control a larger area of the keyboard than WASD.

WASD of course! I was caught up in the WASD hype when QuakeWorld went mainstream and everyone migrated away from the keypad. If only we'd have known back then just how many keys we'd be required to hit

ESDF is a much more efficient setup, wish I could use it My fingers actually rest on WAD and space by default when I'm not doing anything on the keyboard Thank god for 7 button mice!

I used to use the arrow keys with the basic setup that goes with that, but i used to be a sniper on TFC all the time, and it's near-impossible to jump-snipe using the arrows. So i used WASD instead, never gone back.

arrows with Ctrl as jump. if you have a keyboard that's angled (slight rising-slope sort of thing) upwards you'd see why my crouch key is on shift, as well.

Crouch-jump with one finger. Then enter is use. I have a 5 buttoned mouse (pwnage, i must say) so MB1 is fire, MB2 is menu, wheel up is next weapon, wheel down is previous weapon, MB4 is reload, MB5 is lastinv so i can switch easy-fast from my primary to secondary. (if you must use the knife to attack another player, you deserve to be dead, imo. Knife fight? I shoot the foo... )

then end, del, pgdn, pgup, home, insert, all those are bound to something. then the numb pad 1-5 is for the alien evolutions; 7, 8, 9 are all bound to Carapace, Celerity, Cloak respectivly.

Myself and 'The Zowwy' use my screwed up key-config where the mouse buttons are movement.

My key-config is so screwed up that I have been forbidden from sharing it with you by the rest of #evo. They don't want any of your minds to be corrupted by the weirdness of it.

    But it works for me.

good point, it feels more natural, but you've always got to keep your ring and index finger to hit "q" and "e", q for quick weapon switching and e for buidling, door opening, etc..

putting your ring and index finger on q and e for straifing mean a and d would take their place for "lastinv" and "+use," just try to put your fingers back like that and tell me it doesnt feel akward. although it does seem more efficent and ergonomic, it spoils your quick access to lastinv and +use, which prove useful and often in use
