2) Hope not, but probably yes
3) It will get infested with Steam and turn into something beyond imagination of a Lerk
When making a 'steam account' steam froze on me
involved in making a steam acunt is copying all your HLstuff into steam stuff and then delleting your HL stuff (b/c I DON'T have the room to have 2 copies of HL on this comp)
well yah, I can't play any more HL
**** STEAM
I tihnk I jsut gave up on HL all to gether (might just format my HD and NOT reinstall HL at this point)
Dont worry, there will be sure another way, hacked version, unofficial won-like servers and such.
either that or the new HL2 movie
DLed em about the same time...
I restarted my comp b/c it was running slow
it then freezes so hard reboot
pull up taskmanager and see that steam is ussing like 40% of my CPU
DIE STEAM DIE
unistall steam unistall!!!!
I wan't kill -9 for windows is all I can say
theres some stuff in the code that checks if you have kazaa, and if so, it will check to see if you have mp3's and whatnot in the folder.

That is excatly what happened to me, when my brother dowloaded and installed steam to play CS 1.6.
My computer was very slow and some programs kept crashing all the time.
After I uninstalled steam, everything was back to normal.
2) You can play NS normally without Steam for 2 weeks. But eventually NS will require Steam <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
3) Steam messes up your HL folder.
I didn't install Steam as servers were too fall plus it looked crap, what i didn't understand is why do this now ? Why not do it with HL2 only ? Leave the 1st HL alone, they are going to kill HL 1 at this rate.
Steam DOES make your CPU scream bloody murder. (Why they chose to use a skin that takes up so much power and RAM I have no idea, they could have used the Generic Microsoft Visual C++ Boxs but they chose not to.)
Steam IS NOT spyware, though it does have ads LIKE spyware.
Steam IS a Pain in the ****.
Steam, once you get it to work, has it's ups however and I wish you all the best of luck in getting it to work!

In other words you are able to modify the HL server files so when such modified HL cretes server other people will be able to join him using IP adress or such?
I tried it some zime ago...and you wont believe, thinking about Steam became more depressive for me than thinking about school.
