Why Was Enhanced Sight Removed?

<div class="IPBDescription">I liked it :(</div> Enhanced sight was like the most bitching upgrade in the world, essentially SoF for dark visible places it made enemies n stuff bright white. This is a seriously useful upgrade, perhaps too useful? I was wondering why it was removed, because frankly I have yet to find a single use for pheremones.

Why do you need enhanced sight if you have Scent of Fear?

It was definitely not "too useful", perhaps the least useful upgrade in the game. However, it was still better than Pheromones. If Pheremones included the Enhanced Sight bonus in addition to its current effect, I might consider using it.

I always liked it best when I was lerk, made it much easier to target marines with spikes. Really I think it was far more useful that pheremones is.

Was enhanced sight the sensory upgrade for 1.0x?

Yeah it made marines glow like like the aliens do when you turned on the alien flashlight.

Cloaking definitely pwned enhanced sight, but now that sensory chambers do that enhanced sight might be more viable.

Enhanced Sight was always in my arsenal of upgrades. Sure, you can see where Marines are in a vent or around a corner with SoF, but once you get them in view they disappear if they're in a dark spot. ES solved that problem instantly, just hit F and you've got neon-Marines. It was also very helpful for seeing marines way way way below you, like if you were a lerk flying above their base in ns_castlewars.

I loved enhanced sight with lerks. Let the spiking commence! It's way better than pheremones.

because enhanced sight isnt shown when in visual range like hivesight, however its often too dark to actually see them.

I liked it because in the chaotic melee of skulk attacks, it always lit them up real good, so you knew when there was a chunk of rine flesh right in front of you. Really helped me aim while I did backflips and spun around to dodge at point blank.

Saying it's better than pheremones is a moot point.

I have posted this some time ago in the S&I forum. IMHO this is a good way to improve Pheromones:

    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->
I m wondering why scent of fear ist still called scent of fear. It currently enhaces the hivesight, it gives you an improvement to your hud. So i think scent of frear shold renamed to Enhanced Hivesight and pheromones becomes scent of fear. The tail of pheromones will vary from yellow to red depending on the marines health, so those dog <!--emo&::skulk::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/skulk.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='skulk.gif'><!--endemo-->s can hunt down the injured marines.  Additonaly the marine models shold be brightend up and have a red tint depending on health, so this new scent of fear helps detecting marines in dark corners and picing out the injured in groups.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Sounds good to me. When you walked into a room full of marines you would straight away get a feel for their true strength. At the moment pheromones feels like a bit of a place holder.

Has anyone noticed that hivesight doesnt exist anymore in line of sight of a friendly? <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
I was very disapointed that for a marine to show up on hive sight he has to be parasighted and not just in visual range of a friendly alien... YET now marines can see all aliens in their radar range.... hummmm

EHS was also very usefull for spotting grenades, so, I would usually take it if I was lerking and giving umbra, because grenades meant RUUUUUN! <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

You still have the overhead map. Pull it out and you can see any marines that around aliens. I usually have it out when I gestating or building. It's kind of fun to watch an overhead battle between a marine and a skulk who keeps on missing him.

so... question to devs again? Why was it replaced with pheremones?
  • Racer1Racer1 Join Date: 2002-11-22 Member: 9615Members
If pheremones showed where the marines are GOING to be, then it would be worth something <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

I am all for merging enhanced sight with the current pheremones. At least it would be worth something then.

I asked the same question myself Ziggy. Maybe because Phermones is like it, since it shows you their trail when your up close?
