The great thing about NS, is that a chain-reaction of small victories by either Marines or Kharra, doesn't 100% guarantee final victory. Comebacks are the finest and most rewarding parts of NS, in my opinion. Combat would purge any chances of a comeback.
Here's what I think would happen.
1. All the great players stack marines. 2. Marines dominate early game, and a void between the teams form. 3. Marines obtain better weapons. 4. Void is pushed further and further. 5. Alien team experience no fun.
And you thought the scenario of dying, giving the opposite team res was bad? How about the act of dying, giving them the game? It'll turn people into jerks. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

Its not like CS or RPG, its like buzzybots. Oh and one thing i learned from the <b>buzzybots</b> mod is that<b> teamplay mods with upgrades for the winning team</b> suck like hell.
Bad idea, NS is good the way it is because it is not what is described on the frontpage. However a mode for the less inexperienced players might be intresting something like NS Lite version with a little less option to build and upgrade maybe.
Generally i don't like it, but if it's done good maybe it has a chance, if it sucks it was a big waste of development time. I say scrap NS:C and invest the time in HL2 NS!
Right i've quoted a number of points we all discussed on Quakenet about the new playmode. I think theirs 6 or 7 issues about it for and against it. I really don't see how anyone can shoot this idea down. I am under the impression that the current mode of NS (teams, longer games, resouce count matters, etc) will not be effected. If the NS team wants to make a DoD/CS-like version of NS then I'd be all for it. Sometimes NS's fun factor is killed by comms who do not know what they are doing, and teammates who are anything but your teammates. To have a mode where you are you and you're out killing the other team sound extremely fun and I'd love to see it in action.
If the purpose is to "educate" less experienced players I'm not sure this Combat mode is the way. Most people nowadays are already accustomed to the FPS interface (ie: aiming, shooting, moving). Further "education" on that area will not really prepare them for the RTS part of NS.
As a pass-time while waiting for the server to fill up on the other hand, it might be a winner. Small games are horrible IMO and this could be an alternative (ie: the game switches mode when there's more then for example 12 players on).
I don't know...it might be fun. But I play NS because I like the way it is; it's not just kill-the-other-team. If you make it more than that (such as make it so that marines have to escape, or last a certain amount of time with a limited number of lives each, or somesuch), I'd be more enthusiastic.

Basically Counter-Strike style or something like FLF style?
I think it would be a GREAT way to test new weapons / abilities for the RTS NS. Sometimes its hard to test higher level weapons / lifeforms in the RTS version because they take so long to get. If it was short round based like CS you would get a chance to see how the weapons fare against other lifeforms better.
I'm assuming art/animation are holding back the implementation of new things though =/.
So how will it work do teh ALIESN UPGRADE CHAMBERS ? OR ABILITEIS? OR WHAT? I am not getting the FULL PICTURE HERE CHARLIE SO IF u you could define it a little more I would understand what your going 4? I guess your prolly still working it out?

As I've said, I think this new mode will only help NS and do very little to hurt it.
Actualy I just read someone elses idea about having a map where aliens already control it and marines try to wipe it out. Or vice versa.
Basically Assault style maps from Unreal Tournament or MOH/DoD. Unfrotunately those were never tooooo popular but I loved them. Of course they're one-sided and they should be. Its a challenge to breach the enemy in their defenses...it shouldn't be 50/50. But it should be do-able.
<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->(such as make it so that marines have to escape, or last a certain amount of time with a limited number of lives each, or somesuch)<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Yeah, atleast <b>try</b> to be original, if they'de put some scenarios for NS:C gameplay it would be cooler, maybe the scenarios could be key events on why the kharaa attacked the marines or something.
If you want to test crap just turn sv_cheats 1 then have fun testsing. Just have a script run that gives you tons of rez and UPgrades everything and give ALINES 3 HIVES and you can HAVe a good 5/10 min bash war? COULD BE FUN? +SPAWN RADOM OT CLUSTERS ALL OVER the Map i thougt there was something about script support being added into 2.0 maybe not this kind of script support. You could just run a script and have full upgrades and tech and then have the script turn off the ability to have givepoints working and turn off AUTOBUILD ANd fast BUILD OR LEAVE IT ON and HAVE A FULL ON WAR?
Seems pretty "lowest common denominator" to me. NS doesn't exactly have a demanding learning curve as is, and NS:C just seems like a dumbed down version of it.
On one hand, it might absorb all of the rambos out of the RTS/FPS NS. On the other hand, it could slow down changes and additions to the current NS, suck out half the player base, and spawn a slew of stupid mods that reward personal kills so much that they become invincible.
Personally, I'd rather keep the NS team working on good ol' NS. If the team can find a way to make it without tossing my beloved RTS/FPS to the side, go for it.
Someone else just brought up the Myth style of gameplay.
Start out with xxx res on each side, buy your units/upgrades/weapons/armor etc etc. Then have a fight. Thats basically CS style but its only based on 1-round.
So you buy like 4 jetpacks, 2 HA's, 2 shotguns, 2 welders, an HMG and a pack of mines or 2. Then aliens buy like 1 onos, 1 lerk, 2 fades and level 3 defense and lvl 2 movement and then they go fight.
Weird u should post this today , i was just reading the old NS docs , and going by them this is what u was going after to start with. And to take that a little further you could go back to the mariens have to rescue the traped colonists(sp?)
seems like a good idea but may be a little like CS. always good to try new things
I agree that NS needs more gameplaymodes to be fun for a broader community of players... however I really ask myself what happened to the "Marine-vs-Marine" (CTF-Styled maps) and "Alien-vs-Alien" (5-Hive Layout) modes that were announced a long time ago and a lot of people (me included.. especially MvsM) would love. Those modes (especially MvsM) would require tactical playing
I agree that NS:C sounds very similar to the WC3-Mod for CS... and also i strongly agree with Ollj that rewarding the winning team is rarely fun, because a short row of victories in the first rounds will result in a huge imbalance.
Oh, it DOES sound interessting in a way, i must admit that... BUT I think a "simple" (althugh class-based) TDM takes a way most of the strategic elements that make so unique. My greatest fear is that there will be quite a large number of NS:C servers and the community would be devided into the "tactical players" and the "deathmatch players"... and I think that's just what we always wanted to prohibit such a thing (thinking of the clear statement that NS should not be devided into pubbers and Clanners by making the two types having different rulesets aside FF )

Great idea!! seems like a fun initiative to get to try a new aspect of NS, just as long as I can find my occasional standard NS I see no harm done, I'm positive <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
Well Lets beta test it? and See how it is are Flayra get to work i will be expecting it on my desk at 12:00AM If not your Fired!!! Get to work i know you can get this going and have it done 2day
I just wanted to show my support for the idea. It would be a nice change from standard NS battles, and could be interesting.
I just have a few questions:
o Will the "NSC" maps have 3 hives, or any? o Will there be alternate versions of the current official maps for "NSC?"
o what happened to those 3rd person reload animations <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
---- In the future i'd love to see an "objective" mode for NS, that works in the same way as MOH:AA's objective mode.

Then aliens buy like 1 onos, 1 lerk, 2 fades and level 3 defense and lvl 2 movement and then they go fight.
seems like a good idea but may be a little like CS. always good to try new things
however I really ask myself what happened to the "Marine-vs-Marine" (CTF-Styled maps) and "Alien-vs-Alien" (5-Hive Layout) modes that were announced a long time ago and a lot of people (me included.. especially MvsM) would love.
My greatest fear is that there will be quite a large number of NS:C servers and the community would be devided into the "tactical players" and the "deathmatch players"...
and I think that's just what we always wanted to prohibit such a thing (thinking of the clear statement that NS should not be devided into pubbers and Clanners by making the two types having different rulesets aside FF )
hyper
I just have a few questions:
o Will the "NSC" maps have 3 hives, or any?
o Will there be alternate versions of the current official maps for "NSC?"
o what happened to those 3rd person reload animations <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

In the future i'd love to see an "objective" mode for NS, that works in the same way as MOH:AA's objective mode.
