How To Change The Server.cfg

Sorry if this has already been asked but my Search menu isn't working for some reason.

For some reason when I accessed the server FTP and I set admin_quiet 2 admin_quiet stays at 0. This happens with pretty much every setting I try to adjust even though if I go back and check the file says its set to 2.

Make sure you use your mouse to submit the search. Hitting "enter" fails in some browsers.

Are you restarting the server after changing your server.cfg?

By reset do you mean reset the map or is there a command I should use?

admin_quiet goes in adminmod.cfg not server.cfg doesn't it? If you set it in server.cfg and then have exec adminmod.cfg at the bottom adminmod.cfg will just overwrite the setting.

Oh and after changes it is often easier to restart the server rather than hope a map change will suffice. Try the command 'exit' and then restart from your shortcut or the command 'restart' I think will also work.

    It's in both server.cfg and adminmod.cfg.

w00t for not knowing what the "exit" command does and having my server down for 5 hours.

try not to cascade your commands! Any command that is duplicated in later cfg's will have it's original values overwritten and that makes it a pain in the backside to figure out why things do what they do.

    Is it all working now?

(Sorry if I wasn't clear enough about 'exit'.)

Probably a stupid question from someone who has been operating HL server as long as I have, but what is the difference between the commands "exit" and "quit"?

Exit when executed as an rcon command kills the server, to my knowledge quit simple exits half life.

Yea I'm not talking about using quit on my client. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
Is there a difference between using "quit" or "exit" to shutdown the server? I know if I "quit" the server shuts down completely, ending the hlds_run thread, too.
What does "exit" do? I know I could simply test it but I don't want to annoy the people playing on my server. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
