<div class="IPBDescription">a la HAMPTONS</div> Originally posted in General Server Support, but makes more sense here since only server admins look at the other forum, and this is intended for all people <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

As the HAMPTONS is a terrific server but always terribly stuffed with players and therefore tough to play on at times, I've put up a dedicated server with a similar purpose. That is, a server for advanced players. Right now, the server is still running on the WON side, but will be converted to Steam as soon as everything's in order.
This server is particularly aimed at clan members who want more practice in pubs playing against members of other clans. A few things to note:
1. Server will be available for clan scrims; just need advanced notice.
2. Reserved slots are available to all regs, and, especially, to active clans
3. Since my clan is experiencing a shortage of players, I'm willing to give Admin powers to regs with a history of keeping out inexperienced players as well as adhering to (and making sure others adhere to) the rules.
Since the vocab of most players on pubs seems limited to WTH, SUYF, omg, OMG, n00b, newb, nubcake, owned etc. etc., that kind of overused and EXTREMELY ANNOYING language will be kept to a minimum. Trash talking gets way too out of hand these days. Criticism is fine when appropriate.
The details:
Server Name: TUNA TOWN
Server Address: 149.166.29.239:27015
Players: 20
Map Rotation: Standard, no custom maps currently
Connection: T3 on a Gig backbone (nice and fast!) on a dedicated server with 1.5GigRAM and RAID-5/Ultra3SCSI drives
At any rate, I can be contacted at #tunaclan on GamesNet (idle more or less 24/7) for requesting reserve slots, scrim requests, players who shouldn't be there etc. If I'm away, just drop a line with contact info and I'll eventually see it. Website is currently in development and should be up soon.
Enjoy!

Red5 servers have done this. It's incredibly fun <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->. Consider it for your server and you'll find me on there as regularly <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->.

Its currently being used by the NSMovie team, but there are alot of times where its just empty, so drop by our forums <a href='http://trailblazer2003.proboards22.com/index.cgi' target='_blank'>here</a> and post in the Private Server Booking . BTW: Nice to see more server ops and owners following <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
oh wait. might be my edited ui.txt .
I would never consider this until I have full faith that there will never be another NSplayer or another person seeking to ruin the game. /me says there will always be nubs that seek to ruin the games and scout servers that have ff on just to ruin it...

Thats why you need good admins who are around all the time to hand out admin_bans to people like this.

I'd like to go tourney mode, but as I mentioned, there are only 5 guys now in my clan, and only three active, so I'll need to recruit some "guardians" so that there are more admins on there before I can consider switching to tourney mode, for the problematic reasons Rage mentioned.
We'll see... <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
[edit] I'm also looking into recruiting more admins, but I would really like someone I know to admin my server, experienced admins from respected servers perhaps?[/edit]
As it is now, it's just like any other NS pub. If you want to give me admin, I can help you out with all of those...
BTW, Just curious, are you looking for new recruits in your clan, or is it invite only?
Ah, well I'll be looking more into this on tourny mode, I might consider, but it still seems like an outrageous idea to have tking on seeing it as only clan matches and tournys ever use it. The idea of some public nubs still seems to come to mind everytime I think about it, but that doesnt mean I'll just say NO. I might turn it on for a few days to see how it goes over with everyone, and feedback would be nice.
Are you referring to us? The sites in my siggy, check it.
This idea sucks, what if you're having a bad day, or on a map you aren't super familiar with? Who judges if you are good enough?
I have another question as well. What consititutes good enough to play on the server? I've been playing every day for about 2 weeks now. I don't do aliens yet, but I'm a good marine who follows orders, knows the tech tree inside out (for both sides), am good with all the weapons, and would never intentionally TK. I can't really comm though, I don't have the field experience yet.
However, though I do know the maps very well, I don't have all the area names memorized, which sometimes makes me look super-noobish. So long as I have a waypoint, I'm there.
Do I qualify for you're server? The only way to ever really get "good" (however relative that may be) is to play on a good team with experienced players and see how they tackle different objectives. If all these servers keep going "good players only", how do you expect anyone to get good?
Though you all may like this type of server, it's bad for the community and makes one server have all good people and other ones get stuck with all noobies.
To me the bigger the server and more people the more fun and better experience you get out of them game.

Rage: I was referring to TUNA, and I'm not looking for a clan, just curious. Try tourney mode for a week or so. Or if you're really that scared of it, check out the redphive #2 server. Tourney mode adds a degree of fun to the game that can't quite be described. Perhaps it's just the feel and excitement of a clan mode that gets yoru adrenaline pumping. That and it's fun to jump in the big black hole in ns_nothing and not get killed <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->.
Getting flamed for being a noob is pretty bad at times.
I mean, aside from not always knowing where "processor core" or something like that is on every map off the top of my head is, I think I'm pretty decent. I don't meander off on my own unless asked, I try to use strategy in my attacks, ect. But the minute a comm says "go to *blah*" and I ask for a waypoint cause I don't know the locations by heart, 5 marines are like "fck you n00b get off the server" or something. What is the general NS player's problem with people who haven't played the game as long as them?
If you don't help (or at least tolerate) the nub's, they aren't ever going to get good.
Ah, sorry about my bluntness.
Stop by mine as well, its pretty much already got traffic to, so you won't have to worry about possibly starting up a near empty server.
Spacemoogle5 asked flayra what he thought FFT was like.. he said
"FFT are, no doubt the funniest NS clan that has ever hit earth"
Wow.. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
