Put the "Join Aliens" texture on one side of your brush and set the other 5 sides to the "null" texture. Make the brush a func_illusionary, with the Render Mode set to "Additive", the Render Amount to 255, and the Render FX set to "Distort".

With { textures the colour in the last palette entry is the colour that will be transparrent when using rendermode solid, blue is usualy used in that pallette entry to indicate what will be transparent. Any texture can be made transparent like the team join signs by applying it to an entity with additive rendermode.
