<div class="IPBDescription">Sreen Freeze and Looped Sound</div> Hi Guys

I have a problem with my PC crashing in NS. I do get crashes in DOD aswell but in DOD it takes 3-4 times as long to crash. Since I mainly play NS I though that I would post here.

At any time in a game the Screen will freeze and the sound loops. I have read most of the other crash posts on this forum and on may others but still have not found a solid solution.

For others that have problems with their sound blater live I recommend switch from ACPI to Standard PC as SB LIves dont like to share IRQ's.

I have reloaded my OS, Reloaded HL, NS 2 and All my drivers. I fetched the latest drivers again today. I am pretty sure it is the sound card since I can play for hours when I remove it. When I put it back in the games last anywhere from 5 mins to 2 hours(this is my max so far).

I have put the sb live onto its own IRQ, under standard PC. I have tried the three sb lives from my other PC's. My SC works in those PC's no probs. I have replaced my 512 DDR twice to no avail. Any other games work fine its just the HL mods.

Does anyone have any other ideas or fixes that I can use.

for a slightly more indepth explenation instead of just a silly link....

Basicaly this is a realy funky prob that we have not been able to kill yet. Basicaly it has to do with sound and SP1, if you disable osund it should go away...

but playing with out sound sucks

a few people have found that if they kill a certain wav file it goes away....

yah, we realy are sorta stumed

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I've had that problem too, when I upgraded from win98 to winxp. It indeed was a sound problem.

I installed the factory sound card drivers that came with my card (sb live 1024), and it turned out to be those drivers that were causing the problem. I uninstalled the card, got me some new drivers from the Creative web site (dont remember link):

SB Live Value! (even tho it wasn't a Value! card)
    driver version: 5.12.2.252

Used those when I reinstalled my card, and everything works good.

Good luck, and even if that doesn't help, I can pretty much garuntee its a sound card problem, and I'm confident you can solve it by playing with other sets of drivers.
