but when i open the menus in the game, its all scrambled.. and my messages are stranges as well

This happened in the Counter-Strike steam beta. I think you will just have to wait for an update.

Yes we all have that problem with steam if you read all these other lovely posts about Steam in this forum....you will also see everyone's other problems.
