Check out the overview folder in your NS folder -- also, pressing C in-game shows you the overview of the map you are playing.

Don't worry, though. You will soon know the maps by heart .. then the ventilation systems

Argg. gtg, but you can get map views from somewhere. Will get the links for you when I get back. I only know of some for the original ns maps the new ones don't seem to have any overviews.

    Google search should do it.

Alternatively, there's a nice minimap replacement in my signature, with general clean-up and added location names and vent placement.

okay, - the 'old maps' as you term them, are NOT updated for NS 2.0 What do I mean? The NS_Nothing map still has a resource node in docking wing 01, etc. etc. I'm currently working on some printable maps, to be used for in-game reference, which will not have textures (I think they're easier to read at a glance in-game) but will be labeled with room names, hives, rine start, nodes, weld points, and vents. I'll give you the link to my clan's site when I'm finished with them... but it might take me awhile...

i wouldn't feel too bad... I've been playing since day 1 and i still can't remember my way around some maps. There's one hive (archiving) which i can NEVER find if i need to, i run around until i come across it by luck alone.

I made some printable maps w/ resnodes/hives marked, but never got around to getting location names for them (l4z1n3ss).

there's a lot of forgotten res nodes and low image quality but :\ they're printable .

I was the same way truly and completely. However that all changed when I found the c button a.k.a. the +showmap command. I used it to guide me to the spot, holding down the key till I got there. My K:D ratio went down heavily because I never saw the marines till I was dead, but I know the maps now...

And giving up a few games of NS to become that much better from that point on is worth it I think.

this might just be me, but...

I find that analyzing top-down maps just doesn't get you anywhere, probably hurts more than it helps. just play the maps -- you'll learn them eventually.

try playing one map nearly exclusively, you'll quickly learn it then the map that comes before, and after it. the maps are all pretty similar in principle -- three hives, double res, some vents...

most maps have good texturing jobs to differentiate areas. but some don't. just continue to run around, and as stated, use the C key to see where you are, and look at the location name in the bottom left.. you'll soon associate them without trouble.

    those are just my suggestions.
