Rt Trauma

1 person army
Just curious but is anyone else finding increasing amounts of hopeless alien teams in publics?

I just played a couple of matches where our 'teamwork' seemed to consist of arguing while one or two others were shouting over voice comms.
In all the matches there was me and maybe a few other scattered competent players (winter was one of them =3 ) but the rest of the team didn't really seem to be doing anything. In all of them the Marines capped most of the res nodes and electrified them when they could while our team? I don't know what the heck they were up to most of the time.

The worst one was when I went fade early to take out the elec rts; at first it was great because everyone was helping out, building the hives, defending our rts and attacking the rines ones then after a while it was just me jumping around at enemy rts alone and I couldn't even spend time to do that. Every time I started one of our res nodes would come under attack so Id have to leap in and knock out the marines there, sometimes a skulk would help. but as the game went on I noticed halfway through an elec rt 2 nodes were under attack. Having answered almost every single other 'under attack' that I could I just thought, ah heck they can manage to protect at least one node on their own... oh how wrong I was ><
By the time I'd finished the elec RT I checked our nodes and realised that somehow we'd lost 2 nodes and when I stepped back to heal... our DCs were gone!!! so I try to meta while making my way to the hive which suddenly started flashing as I made my way there. By the time I got there? I was in deep doodoo.
The hive went down before I could make it and with no way of healing and marines all around I went after one of them, clumsy with rage and died.

The net result? 8v1 res nodes... I rebuilt the dcs which had now failed to have been replaced for over 3 minutes by anyone else (I actually did it while one of them was moaning how he'd have to do it and it'd cost him his onos and how bad that was... he'd been doing that for a while without actually going gorge or even making any move to do it =s ) and built some basic defences but it was too late, the high-tech shotgun marines poured in and we were gone.

I'd wiped out legions of marines even as a skulk and saved our rts more times than I could count but in the end it was almost like I was playing alone with some background whining over voicecomms... what happened? Why did they do such a bad job that I had to fill in for the rest of them half the time? If anyone who was in that game was reading and thinking 'hey! I built RTs!' thanks... I know you had to replace a few but the vast number of the alien team just seemed to help at the start and then it was almost like they stopped playing or something o.O

I'm not really whining about the server, it's still my regular and I have fun on it lots; I'm just miffed about the state that some alien teams seem to be in. What the heck happened? lol
Anyone else experiencing this hoarde of moany babblers in their alien teams or was this just an unfortunate time to play a game of NS? =3

Oh and gg to most marines these days, they're getting a heck of a lot more coordinated and stuff, it's almost like the bad players from the marine team are sliding over to the aliens in some sort of act of sabotage ^^;

At least you originally GOT some rts lol. In an increasing number of games, I find my team cant even be boithered to get rts at the start...we just all keep attacking or ambushing the marines...and then realise we dont actually have any extra rts....now THATs teamwork

Yay for the n00b patrol. If I read one more post in which people whine about spending "their res on X because they were saving for onos" I think I will climb a clock tower with a thermos of coffee, a nice rifle and 3 boxes of ammo!

sounds just like a game i played...

ns_eclipse... i join the game about 5 minutes into it with 0 res... it looks like the round just freaking started on alien side. marines have maintenence and almost half the resnodes electrified and we have like 2 res nodes and no hive... with a bunch of gorges standing around doing nothing. BOOOM i was off like a flash blazing out of the hive. I stopped for a moment to grab regen, then i proceeded to maintenence, where i found no weak spots and i couldnt do anything there. Marines HAD to of had MT lvl 3 armor/weapons when i JOINED because they always knew where i was. Some newb managed to get the hive up (with only 3 capped res for our team -_- ) I had been going around the map assasinating squads of rines (they had no phase gates) and then i had enough res to fade and i grabbed regen. I went to one node... got it half way dead when i noticed a push on south loop (shotguns/lmgs) i went in from behind (i was at horseshoe) and killed them all one at a time taking no fire. i went back and finished off the res node to find our res in triad was under attack. i swung through comp core for a heal then boom i was there in a flash. came in a station access side, blinked up to roof... looked for a split second and spotted one HMG, then blinked ontop of that guys head chopping it off... then i blinked out because those LMGs hurt like a mofo (lvl 3) went to eclipse healed up, went back to triad, killed the rines (one had picked up the HMG with no bullets and tried to click me to death ^_^ ) i plead to my team to place res nodes in power sub junction, triad, and station access, but they dont listen. i blink into rines base near the res node only to be forced to blink out by one guy ( i hate lvl 3 weapons) i take out starting res only to find every single rine is equipped with HMGs (no HA yet) so i kill one... ikill two, i down a third then i die... but i had enough for onos... but i just quit the game when i discovered during that last battle that the server had disabled metabolize (jesus, as if meta was bad enough... you gotta take it away?)

It is indeed helpless when the people wont even listen to you, or even attack... you just have to assume your the only player on the team and go to everything. You cant trust people, they are all incompetent, i dont care what you think about them.

Other then that.... i suggest just letting them kill your stuff as you practice with fade/lerk and start a new round, hoping those stupid people would leave.

HAHA, I remember a game where we had control of all three hive locations, but only had the starting hive up. Our gorgs , who had totally gone APE**** had literally gone FULL offense in groups of 2-3 (about 1/2 or team were gorgs early game) and capped about 5 Res nodes and WALL-O-LAMED most of the choke points on the map. Dispite the Uber teamwork and complete dominance our poor gorgies had basically spent all their RES capturing and defending the map.
One little Gorgie came on Voice and basically said "hey, can one of you skulks temp-gorg us a hive, we gorgies are low on res...", which was returned by EVERY skulk on our team (about 6 people) by a "**** YOU, IM SAVING ONOS STUPID ****!" or similar , which is complete BS. What was even lamer, was that we had 1 hive, so 1 upgrade... which was Sensory.
So i basically explained to them that they wouldnt have redemption unless Hive 2 was built. Then the gorgies announced they were on strike and would not build Hive #2 no matter what (explaining that the ONI-wannabes needed to learn teamskills the hard way). This really **** off the RES-**** (hehe).
So this HUGE argument broke out over voice/chat about who was going to tempgorg it, which lasted about 5-10 minutes. Meanwhile, the gorgies are STILL owning the Marines, who were using CC spawn "distractions" and medpack blizzards to try to crack open a WAL. (as a side note, after a huge attack on a wall of lame which failed ,the COM dropped a "LOL" in medpacks on the floor next to the marine corpses [HAHA])
Eventually, I had to go gorg from bieing a Lerk and build it, but as I got there I found that one of the skulks had given in and tempgorged it so i waited and built Hive #3. In the end we won , although It took so long for the team to get ONI that the Marines where full upgrades and the last battle lasted like 15-20 minutes.

I think it just goes to show how lame people can be... and how cool gorgies are!

Sounds exactly what happens to me all the time. It seems that I'm the only one going gorge all the time. It's fun to do it and all that but after 5 or 6 games you just want to get some kills but than no one else does that freaking job.

ah, sorry to hear that guys - I don't run into those problems a lot... But I play in a clan and when I do go out pubbing, I usually stick to NAR's servers, they tend to have competent people in there. What I've noticed in 2.0, though, is that most of the teamwork necessary to bind the alien team together has been taken out. Multiple gorging and improved spit allows for gorges to go solo. People don't move in groups anymore. Res for kills is a temptation for those who want the resources to go onos early in the game... but kills does not equal a win... All the while, the marines have been forced, (through a much steeper learning curve) to develop more teamwork. If aliens used anywhere near the teamwork and communication of marines, we'd have a lot more GG's. IMO....

I didn't had much problems so far with team works... sometime I raise a bit (much) the voice on Voice comm, and alien usually sit straight and play well, usually...

had maybe 1 problem of teamwork before in the last week.

Where you guys play, I usually stick to the high server (G4B2S, voodru 1, 2, and such)

I know it really seems like a step backward, but this is why the hive limits were a good thing.
How about 2hives for onos OR 30 min into the game?
The noobs wont go fade or lerk, they would die to easily with them, so they have no choice but to help build stuff up..

Or have a limit that you must build X number of structures, before you can onos. Call it, the bacteria will not trust you with such a large investment, until you have shown you can handle it.

I do see this alot, sadly.. I usually dont build an RT, instead save for hive 2 So usually when we secure a hive, I'll have enough to build it
I myself am guility of this:
A resnode comes under attack, the sound is either A: lost in the noise of battle, or B: I say, its on the other side of the map, Player is closer, he can get it.
How about we get a visual display (Red arrow pointing to it.. on the side of the screen if you must turn, top if its forward... Like.. most of the flying shooter games (Freespace)
Then for the sound, have it start normal and get LOUDER and LOUDER as the rt looses health, when it ends, the arrow explodes and the voice says "Resource Tower Lost"

Or on the left side of the screen, have something like the hive indicator for all the resnodes on the map, with locations, and them flash red if under attack, like the hives

It's funny to see people res shore since, if you look at the stats, by droping a renode first thing, you end up with more res in 5 minutes than if you just save. I drop my node first thing then go skulk and kill. I have seen Onos in under 5 minutes with this technique, and they are usually backed by Def chambers (in 7 person 1-2 people drop chambers while everyone else does a node). Not only do you get more res overall, but you can be off and killing before the IPS and armory are up at the marine base.

Ya, i know this games... but most of the time I see teamwork on both sides and the better team wins. It just depend on the servers I play. Try some servers with custom maps in their map rotation, they are nearly n00b free (wow, i had some awesome games on ns_nancy last night )

Honestly, I blame 2.0 for this. Before 2.01, or perhaps we should say before the marines got their act together, alien wins were almost guaranteed. You pretty much didn't have to do anything at all to win as an alien. In the beginning everyone was dropping an RC, then saving for lifeforms. After some time, people started counting on other people dropping the RCs so they could go Onos or whatever faster. With the current gameplay, this no longer works. The marines are starting to play as a decent team, and the aliens are still thinking "oh well, somebody'll do that, I'll save my res for cool stuff". The trend is reversing though, however slowly, and I've seen games where a unified alien team put the marines in a world of hurt. I've also seen games with two highly motivated and organised teams become epic battles and displays of ingenious tactics and personal skills. We're still far down in the compost heap of bad teamwork, but light is filtering through from above. Give it another month, maybe two, and if the trend continues, we'll be losing our jobs over this game.

Its a bit of a jerkish thing to do but my standard gorge tactic is to throw down a node. I then sit and wait to i have 10 res, If no one else is spending res I drop sens.

I'd like to point out that skulking is so much more fun than onos...ing... it's not even funny .

So usually I get 100 res and I don't have anything to spend it on (if the aliens are doing good)...so i just gorge for half a minute, plop some stuff down and go back to eating marines....because marine flesh tastes like chicken...covered in honey, with a chocolate cake for dessert.

Here's my two cents on this situation:

I have considered myself (for the longest time) a person who doesn't get noticed in game until the last minute. I have been playing Natural Selection since it first game out. Heck, I was waiting for three hours in the queue on FilePlanet to download the client version of NS. Anyway, coming to my point, the aliens are quite the selfish team, in my opinion.

9 out of 10 times, nobody will want to go gorge.

You might get lucky out of those 10 times and find a team where EVERYBODY goes Gorge in the beginning of the game (Team of 9) and the aliens already score 6 res nodes and possibly Defensive Chamber upgrades, (Sensory or Movement applies as well) level 3 I might add. This is when the aliens are going to win due to the fact that the alien team does have the ability to cap a lot if not all res nodes in the beginning of the game. Take numbers for example, 10 aliens start up in the game and each of them start out with 25 resources. That is 250 resources and it will take the Marine team at least or even beyond 5 minutes to get that much team resources. Most maps have a maximum of 10 resource nodes on the map so thus, 10 x 15 resources = 150 resources and the alien team still has basically 100 resources left over to use for whatever which, in my opinion, would be best to build upgrades. The faster the aliens get up their upgrades and resources nodes, the faster they have the ability to win the game, in to which, also have the ability to get Onos or Fade faster (for all you resources wh0res out there). The reason for that is you just go back to Skulk after building a Resources Node or upgrade and then go chow down on some Marines that are still trying to build up in their base while you're still collecting 2/3 resources per kill and basically at least 1 resources per 1 1/2 seconds. By the time you realize it, the resources are well beyond 50 and you're ready to rock on. Give the opportunity, I would stay Gorge throughout the game because some people will still not go Gorge at all and I end up having to dodge and kick Marines out of the way to get defenses up and/or Resources Nodes up.

Marines have to fight their way through aliens to get resources.

Yes, hives are very important however if the alien team can basically just cap all the Resources Nodes in the beginning of the game... who needs parasite? All you need to watch out for is the "Resources Tower is Under Attack" and everybody rush there to take out the Marines. Capping all the Resource Nodes in the beginning of the game not only helps gather resources faster, it also helps the alien team be aware of where the Marines are going at all times. I'd have to say about 6 times out of 10, the Marines will attack a Resources Tower if one is already there. The other 4 times, they will probably ignore it and go for the hive.

Granted I don't play alien much but, this strategy has worked almost flawlessly everytime the alien team did it.

Everybody is not willing to do this because they want Onos and Fades really quick. I don't mind this happening as long as it's only happening with two aliens MAX! The whole team should NOT be wh0ring resources for advanced alien gestation. The concept of teamwork will definitely fall under this strategy and we all know how often that happens in public servers...

    ... definitely not enough.

at the start of each game...i yell on voice comm and type in caps "CAP A RES NODE!" several freaking times....but nooooo0000ooo0o0oo0oo i wanna save for fade and die right away! or i wanna go lerk 5 minutes into the game with no chambers! i rember at one point when playing ns ppl actually did put down rts and worked as a team...but then it started to crumble....and every1 started saving for onos or fade and dying.........
usually the stuipd fade goes rambo into 5 marines with no chambers...thtas what pisses me off so much

I hate it when that happens, which seems to be an awful lot. Most of the time on the Alien team of 12 (for my server) you end up gettin 1-4 perma-gorges whom may or may not be competent, 3-6 n00bs, 0-4 newbies, and 3-5 actually good NSplayers whom work with you. Thats my average game since 2.0 came out. (Oh btw n00bs are the ones who go "COMM CAN I GET A SHOTGUN?" the whole time and newbies are the ones that are genuinely wanting to learn how to play NS well and work as a team) I actually blame the Onos Devour and the larger pool of resources in 2.0.

Dont get me wrong, Devour is necessary as anything cause HA is so good, but it gives you 5 players saving for onos from the start, 3 of which usually get cloak if they can and sit outside marine start eating 1 marine then running away. As for the res, I just think it would be better if it was like in 1.04. Too many people go Alien before Marines cause they are diffrent than your typical team but dont realise that Aliens are more of a team-oriented than the Marine team is. Now you need 2-3 guys gettin Chambers right away then skulking and about 6 running to a Res Node then gorging and cappin an RT THEN goign skulk.

Instead you get 2-4 guys that do what they should for the team and the rest res hoard and what not. Helping the team does not mean go around attacking marines. It means gettin RTs and Killing the marines' rts preparing for a final attack or 2 on the Marine Bases.

All well what are you gonna do? I yell at them. It calms my nerves.

Not everyone with a Microphone uses it to whine. Though I have met some whiners with voices that made me want to slit my throat , wait, I didn't come here to bash anyone... As many know, I permagorge constantly, and on the servers I play on, usually 25 players and up, there are at least 3 other gorges, albeit noob ones. What servers do you play on??

On another note, every other game I talk at least one player into permagorging with me and together we put up Hives / Upgrade Chambers / RT's. Then I teach them the fundamental basics of gorging, the ones I know at least. A few games I even managed to hire a skulk to reconaissance for me, he parasited the exact structes I needed then I helped direct a 1 Onos, 1 Fade, 2 Gorge attack on them. Needless to say it was really awesome.

I just have to ask, if some total stranger on your team asked someone..anyone to do recon for him/her, would you do it?

I play on the Team-Fun server exclusivley since Hamptons is always full and the one some of the old regs on the TF server is too small for my likeing (I like 10+ teams) and some problems I have gettin it to stay on my list.

Anyways if anyone asked me to recon I probably wouldnt do it simply cause I probably would have already done it. See I run around the map seeing what the marines are doign while most of my team panics and says "SHIZA! THEY ARE LOCKIGN ECLIPSE GET THERE!" and what not. I run around the map seeing what the marines are doing then go there. Whats sad is I usually end up gettin there before anyone else still cause they just go and rush Marine Start or an RT somewhere rather than help save a Hive.

Anyways I like reconing since I tend to get mroe kills that way. When most the alien team is off on the other side of the map and the marines know this they let their gaurd down. = <-me prey-> otherside of map ->

If only i wasnt a ****...I cant tolerate other people whom I deem dumb and end up cussing them out and what not to make me feel better and make others who know me laugh. Puts strangers off but I dont care.

And yet, the most satisfying games seem to be the ones that end not with a massive onos-rush on a turret farm, (gah! almost wrote 'turrent' for no reason! scary!), but just with two-hive skulk-lerk-(few) fade teams.
Admittedly these are awfully rare, but onos _isnt_ the showstopper it was.
Saving for them just bugs the crud out of the assassin skulks who are working for their res as well as putting back the enemy.
I suppose thats what it boils down to - you either earn your onos by aiding your teammates in holding down the marines, and killing your way to 100 res, or you just do nothing and live off everyone else - which falls apart if more than 50% of the team is expecting everyone else to build the DC's, the OC barriers, the hives.

Actually I do think it is more fun winning with a (2-3) Fade + (1) Lerk + (4-5) Skulk + (2) Gorge : finisher. Of course I am the gorge, so what do I know about them having fun or not. Either way I am the one healing them while they run in and out of the base trying to attack specific targets that I got some skulk to recon for us. That and my Repair WoL; 1 SC on top of 3 MC's on top of 3 DC's right outside of enemy base. I think it is an art form now, all I need is a 32 Player server for a patron...

nah you shouldnt quit, it works the other way around. Basically: the non-teamwork players will eventually get bored out of their minds from losing every game and leave, leaving a higher majority of teamplayers. However is the game becomes tiresome or "beyond-reasonable-doubt"edly biased then other players will leave. Many players I know seem to feel the magic of the first official release isnt in v2, give it time the community will become more hardcore by the week and your games will improve.

The gorg is cute, that is all that is needed to ensure victory.

If you are experiencing too many wins on either side, you need to switch servers.
For example, when I played in swedish servers all the time(as Im swedish and so are my interweb friends), aliens got pwndid every time except when there was teamstacking. Then I tried a finnish server, reason unknown, and despite not knowing the language, aliens won most of the time. Although it was more a 30:70 ratio, as opposed to swedish 90:10... it's probably gotten better now(both cases), but the point is just that it depends on the server(not the nationality, that was prolly just coincidence).

QUOTE (Morrik @ Oct 3 2003, 02:41 AM)

Guys... we all seem to be in the same boat here... so i made a master plan, if you get an alien team like that... you THREATEN TO GO SENSORY FIRST!!! OMG it works so well... the first few times when you say you will go sensory first, you gotta do it to make due with your threat, but once they understand your for real, they get their act together really fast.

If you really really hate them, go sensory first, then put up a second hive and go movement second. THE NOOBS MUST SUFFER AS WE HAVE ALL THESE WEEKS!!! MAKE THEM PAYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
