Shotguns, Onos, Egos

And people who think they win instantly
You know, I'm pretty sick of how overly confident people get when they get a certain weapon.

Example: I'm a fade or a skulk. I know that I'll be blown to hell if I get close to a marine with a shotgun. So my solution is to blink/leap around them and count their shots. When they reload, then I jump on them and finish them off.

Moments later, they say: I hit you several times. You should have died. Hacker.

One or two pellets from a shotgun isn't going to do much to a regen, blinking fade - they just heal it over while you blast randomly to no avail. Regardless, they think you cheated since you were a melee alien and killed an anti-melee marine.

Then we have Onos. Everyone says they're overpowered, so everyone thinks that. They never seem to pay attention to what a HA/HMG does to vanilla skulks - it's about the same thing that an Onos does to vanilla marines. So you have nubs going onos (after refusing to lay down structures as a gorge to help out the whole team when we desperately needed it) and plodding in carelessly, then dying. Standing outside the marine base and devouring LA/LMG marines at the start of a game does little good, since a skulk could do the same damned thing. Anyway, there's too many cocky onos out there who think they're absolutely invincible to all but a group of 8 HAers. They always cry "h4x" when I duck under them and load a clip of lv3 LMG into them with support from turrets and teammates.

Nefilim teamchats: I'm in ventilation.

quite true, of course most rine are intemedated by the cow, so they run away, which leads to the cow being able to ramapage witout getin hurt (cant shot behind you), which makes the agresive people like myself and aparently you a real shocker.

Mmmm... i find onos intimidating not for the continually-killing-deathdrone character trait, but more my seeming lack of ability to find the damned hitbox on the damn things.
'Course, i prob'ly am hittin them, but hey, it never really seems to make much of a difference to it anyhoo.

Shotguns have a nice *thud* to their shots that just feel nice to use... same with GL's.

Yer thats what pisses me off about onos, you have to hit them on top of their back or the nade doestn explode. Hit the head it bounces off, hit the **** it usually goes thru the onos to bounce harmlessly to the ground. Then marine nubblets run away when ive slapped its **** with a few shotgun shells instead of killing off its remaining 30 health, it regens and the circle continues.

Same as the people who don't seem to think saving your pistol is possible.

I'll unload a clip of LMG, dodge for a bit, and rather than use my pistol, unload a 2nd clip of LMG. That way, when the Fade/Onos decides to go regen for a bit, I can unload the mini-railgun into his retreating bad self.

They always immediately cry about scripting, and h4x, and lag, and fps, and everything else that's a scapegoat. I find the people who blame FPS for everything (except 1.04 jp's, but that's a given) generally weren't very good anyway, and have found a conveinient thing to blame.

Don't worry about it, there's been people blaming other influences for their own incompetance since we beat each other with sticks.

ick... I've had a few WTH from people when I'm fade but nothing along the lines of 'hax' (especially because the servers I go on are CD ones =3 )

I can see why people cry out sometimes... I get this thing with lvl 3 armour LA marines where I get the drop on them, deliver 2 bites before they even notice me then get 1 more bite in before the final moment... I slide across them with my jaws working but no bite registers then they gun me down ><
Happens with crowbars and most other melee attacks in HL though and it's not a lag thing because it happens on lans too =/

Alot of people bash a early ono but if used right it can be VERY powerful, what you need to pull it off? Frist, ONYL ONE PERSON SAVE FOR ONO!, find the best player on your team and have them save for ono 2: have DCs or a or a gorge who is willing to be your side kick, 3: don't run head frist into there base(unless its not gaurded well) take out there res nodes left and right, if a buch of marines find you before the node is dead RUN AWAY don't take on the whole dam team, the time and the 5 res to weld it was worth it, and if they don't weld it? Take it down in a few seconds later, keep in mind a ono can out range a elt node makeing them useless.

Yep...I get a lot of that "omg fade yoo h4x!!! stop!", but I see a lot of complaints about ignorance from pubers...just deal with it! Call them a n00b or something...most of the time it will make em shaddup. =D

Of course most people say "OMG h4X!!!" just for the fun and games of it. You gotta aquire some social skills and learn do deal.

What I enjoy doing most of the time is flowing with it...Example: "Yeah I'll admit I use the fly around cheat. Oh yeah...and that Skill v1.0? Yeah I have that too"

Uh what?Fades will always own at least 3 shotgun marines if you can blink. The first marine should do instantly thanks to you blinking and slashing out of nowhere. The rest will turn round firing randomly as you blink in behind them or to their flanks and then you slash them....

One of my clan mates is a great fade, i mean im scared of him when he fades and im on his team, so when he goes off and gets like 10 kills as fades Vs a HA/Hmgers the mairnes never really shout "H4X" most just say gg.

There is a trend in HA peole that they are god-like and can go kill fades/onos by them selfs so just walk away from the rest of the group. we have all done it

Myea, I don't understand how people think that running away from something that moves faster then you can help. I usually just start running away, turn around, jump, and start firing.

Just last night I LMG killed an Onos who was aparently low on health just because he didn't think I'd fight back.

EDIT: One line responses aren't something to be proud of. It's just an inflation of postcount.

There is a time to stand and fight... and a time to run away. I dont needlessly give noob onos free RFK, i know when to hoof it. and yes i can shoot while running away, jump, do a 180, a short burst, turn, keep running a bit more... shoot. Then i do my almighty onos evade when he gets close i turn and charge full speed past him as he just runs past me. sure i will die, but every second i waste of the onos, the more time my comm has to prepare for the worst.

By early game Onos, this is what I meant:

We're assuming they only have one hive and 3 defense chambers. That's no stomp or celerity. Now, assuming they're trying to do jobs to take out large groups, they're just going to slowly trod into a room of alert marines who're building in a cramped room outside the hive. Trod, trod, trod... might gore one or two marines, then dead.

Their only use at early game is to take down undefended, electrified turret farms. Consequently, a smart two-hive gorge can do the same job. Instead of spending 100 res to go Onos, that player could've went gorge, dropped a hive, build the RT, three movement chambers, then a defense chamber under the hive. So, rather than having one onos on your team, you have a team with the ability to gain more resources, leap, bilebomb, and use celerity/adren.

Yeah but then you wouldn't be able to.... uhhh.... uhhh... There has to be a reason. Oh wait.. you are dead on.. there is no reason for an early game onos. A fade which costs 50% as much can be used against vanilla marines in much the same way the onos can..

But it's the size that people love.. Size matters in NS too...

You can tell the hardened NS monkey when someone screams "They have GL!!!" and they go "Excellent" and skulk rush the GL boy.

I can also tell you its disconcerting to be singled out by half a dozen skulks, trying to kill them with a GL while not killing yourself.

(Yes you could switch to pistol or knife, but unless you've humped the armory dry you'll run out of ammo eventually)

EDIT - in light of the following post, I should say the above refers to being a good player in the sea of pub servers. Where lone GLers just never learn.
  • Cereal_KillRCereal_KillR Join Date: 2002-10-31 Member: 1837Members
The hardened NS player would be afraid of the hardened NS player with a GL because he knows he won't be a sitting duck with his GL, but supported by what hardened NS players would call cover or team.

Yep, we've all seen the effect that a powerful weapon or species can have on a player. The more power you give them the less patient they become; they want to use it and they think that they can survive on their own. This is most obvious in HAs, who are in actuality useless without welder backup but pub tards don't realize that, and Onoses, who are considerably better off on their own than HAs but still can't do everything on their own like a lot of pubbers think they can. Not much you can do about it on pub games, really...

    Assorted replies:

I never go early Onos. But, ONE is useful for fast mass-destruction (mauling undefended 'Rine buildings and lone electrified stuff- get regen) as they get harder to kill with each successive hive, and early Onos are useful for making the 'Rines think they're fighting Noobs. Plus, there's the fear factor; I've never been afraid of Onos, yet some noobs will run and cower... how is it different from being diced up by a skulk or fade? Maybe once they've have pumped a few thousand rounds into a few Onos, they finally know where to hit it and lose a little fear. Hitboxes seriously need some help in NS, IMHO...

I love lone GL'ers... they taste like chicken. And since I suck with GLs (and am often the last one standing -off at a distance- with my trusty GL after the melee is over), I often just drop it when Comm gives me one. Here YOU take this- you're probably better with it. ^^^
Yes, it happened to me on cage. I was in the double res area we just secured and heading over to check out aux gen. My backup was a little slow at the armory, so I was a bit by myself. I walked into a group of skulks massing for an assault on the double res. They started coming straight for me as I started back pedaling and fired 3 missed nades in their direction. I saved the last nade until they were just out of bite distance. One nade to the face on the middle skulk wiped them all out and I was down to 88 health minus some armor from the proximity of the explosion.

I turned around just as my backup arrived and just said, "LOL"

I truthfully hate the GL. When I get stuck with it, I can't get any of the team to give me support. I'm pretty much on my own and thusly, screwed. Even on the servers run by clans, I still have this problem. I also hate it when the comm drops me the full HA suit up with a GL. No matter how many times I tell him, he still gives me a welder. Even in a HA train, the guy with the GL usually gets stuck defending himself, and that's not very easy if you have a welder insted of a pistol.
Can anyone tell me a good place to aim at an onos? I know shooting at them from behind works, but when it's any other direction, I can't seem to get a hit on em.
