a commanders view
NS: An RTS/FPS clone, utilizing a combination hybrid worker/soldier. The said soldier refuses to go to waypoints, has an overly disturbing love habit with the armory, a tendancy to whine at everything you do. He refuses to build, defend, or follow any type of order, persists to beg for whatever you dont have at the time, and has the nerve to think they are important enough to be worthy of 2 res ammo/medpacks all the time. The commanders job is to help/instruct/plead/beg/bargain with/lie to/persuade/bribe the said soldiers into doing what he wants to accomplish the overall goal of beating off and annihlating the alien menace.....

How would YOU define Natural selection?

ps - tell them there's lots of medpacks there, or a gestating onos
Geez Ayatollah, breaking trust with a soldier to get him to a useless waypoint? Maybe we should redefine commander for you.
Or when you say seemingly, do you mean they actually are useful.
Seemingly useless.. i know what he means by that...
As in a hive, double res, or siege location... totally useless to anyone but a commander, who knows what to do with it..
Marine: DURR.... commander i want a shotgun...
(ME) : THere is a shotgun at the Tram Tunnel Hive.. go QUICK! before the 3 onos in gestating eggs finish evolving and destroy it!::
:: The entire team races to Tram Tunnel like its a freakin marathon.......::

But seriously, all of my recent attempts at commanding have gone wrong. For example, one round of Veil, I joined late and everyone was at double res, no comm. Now, I didn't know this at the time, no one said anything, just "WE need a comm, we need ammo, we need health" So they keep complaining about needing ammo and health and so on, so I jump in. I get an ammo request, so I'm like "Oh, that must be them" Ends up it was half way across the map from where everyone else is. So they all die and are like "WTH Epsilon?! (morons, can't even figure out my name.. ><) We needed ammo, thanks for making us lose nub" I really can't see how it was my fault... No one requested ammo, I had just joined, THey should have had a comm, one of them should have done something, but no. Its my fault because I joined late and just wanted them to shut the hell up.
Gotta love people who complain about commanders when they don't even make an attempt to try to command.
As such, my defination of NS from a commander pov is a game where people complain about something not getting done, yet they won't ever bother to do it themselves

Thank you! I had a picture to go along with it but it was too big.
LOL I like the idea of tricking the idiot marine team into going to their waypoints. Not done it myself but I wouldn't be surprised it if happened on a server when I was gorging.
Ugh, ANeM, I hate it when I join marines late game and find that they still don't have a comm... And yet when you have the good grace to get in and try it out, they still blame you for their defeat. I mean really, once you've not had a comm for the first three minutes of the game, you have already lost...
In contrast, the job of every alien player is to help/instruct/plead/beg/bargain with/lie to/persuade/bribe their teammates into accomplishing strategic objectives (protecting hives, ambushing patrols, clearing outposts). The alien res system (and the combat-ineffectiveness of gorges) pretty much requires that one negotiate buy-in from most of the team before making any major strategic move.
Just follow that stupid fade around, you know the one who want stop behind corners to let you heal him?
acording to the commander: *reads from a ns box* "A new version of starcraft with brand new features which include mariens who dont follow orders, a complex tech tree which half of team can't comprehend, and a bucket o' frustration in pub play" ;p

so really you are saying there are 2 goals here
1. beating off
2. annihlating the alien menace
what version of ns are you playing?
(this is not mine, I read it on these forums)
