[steam Version] Mad Problem..

Well , i got a problem..
I got the Steam Version of NS and can't use the Won Version because i get a strange error (Steam VFS failed to initialize <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo--> ).
Everything works fine, but i cant use the pop-up menu.. well I CAN use it but i can't read anything .. I'm using OpenGL and already tried to switch to D3D , but that didnt help.. plz somebody tell me what to do, i want to play <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

(I'm on WinXP and am using a Geforce 4 Ti4200 with newest Detonator Drivers)

    ummm...head in controls and rebind mouse2 to the popup menu??

    EDIT : Ah the garbled popup menu,unfortunately everyone has that error. Sad isn't it?

    So, what could i do about that "Steam VFS failed to initialize:" error I get when i try to start Half Life? I would reinstall HL, but i cant find my CD (must already have 3 or so of them.. and always loose em and cant find them anymore <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo--> )

    NS is currently being worked on to be compatible with Steam, to the best of my knowledge, and the 2.1 patch will hopefully eradicate all errors with Steam. They're also, apparently, pushing for NS to become a supported mod by Steam meaning automatic updates and a lot of compatibility crap being sorted.

It seems STEAM updates somehow bork your WON client. I have had to do a fresh install to rectify the problem (better look a little harder for that CD!)

    i have the same cant intilize steam vfs and i dont even use steam <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/confused-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="???" border="0" alt="confused-fix.gif" /> so what do i do

    Use Steam?

    I would be really surprised if NS supported Non-Steam installs, since they are now illegal. Official WON servers have been shut down.

    Note the date of the previous posts.

    true. Steam messed NS popups up pretty good when it went from WON to Steam, but thats a long time ago and WON is a nogo now

    Don't know if they are <i>illegal</i>. If so, call the cops, because last lan, we used 1.1.1.0 HL (which is non-steam). And, I still have a lot of the old WON installs somewhere on my comp. Don't forget, there is that group of people wo set up a WON-like thing (google WON2, I believe)

    But yea, todays NS installs do NOT work with 1.1.1.0 HL. Sorry mate. Just have to get Steam.

    Should have clarified, I meant more along the WON2 installs are illegal.
