this just doesn't make sense
When i first started playing NS, i ahd a geforce 2 GTS 32 mb...and i got perfectly smooth fps at all times during the game

recently, i got a radeon 9800 pro 128 mb, and i cant get above 40 fps!! all of my other games run fine...even Halo runs almsot perfectly smooth all the time....HL is the only game ive had problems with

it isnt vsync or anything like that....nothing involving what was discussed in that huge webbed thread about win2k/xp users...so what the hell else could it be? is HL possibly looking for my old nvidia drivers (which are uninstalled, of course), and the problem could be fixed by a fresh install of HL?

any ideas would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance

Radeons literally suck with OpenGL games, particually with HL. Try downloading the newest cat's (3.8) and compare peformance between DX and OGL in HL.

[Edit: If you think there's still some nVidia stuff on your HD, try running Detonator RIP. It should clean all the remaining nVidia drivers etc. Download from http://download.guru3d.com/pafiledb.php?ac...ion=file&id=603 ]

[Edit #2: I think there are also some ATI related switches in HL's config.cfg file. Can't remember what tho, because I'm an nVidiot :]

Make sure TruForm is off (ati_npatch 0 in your config.cfg). I have an ATI 9800 Pro and get 99 fps most of the time. It never drops below 50fps. I do agree that the newer ATI cards have issues with opengl games.
