1000th topic as well =]
Can anyone help me finding ideas for a map, there aren't really much to choose from in NS, it's just spaceship after spaceship, is there every going to be any variety?
Its not just space ships its also space stations, space colonies. I even saw one that was in a cave.

I can understand why you might say there's "no variety" in NS maps because they're all spaceships/space stations/interstellar outposts/etc., but the actual physical location of your map matters little. What really matters is the details and theme that you choose. For instance, although both Ken20banks' NS_Nothing and Yamazaki's NS_Penumbra are set on space stations (I think, correct me if I'm wrong), they look radically different. NS_Nothing has a great "abandoned and industrial" appearance because of the architecture and lighting, whereas NS_Penumbra uses cleaner textures and brighter lighting to appear a bit more high-tech.
Also, mappers must be careful to remain true to the theme of NS, perhaps more than any other mod. Marines and aliens running around a supermarket or a garage just doesn't feel right. But there are plenty of different takes on the "spaceship" theme, enough to make the maps feel different.
So here's some things to think about. What purpose would your ship have? What kinds of rooms, architecture, lighting, etc, would this ship have to best serve its purpose? How is each room going to look? (Look at NS_Hera -- the reception area is brightly lit and inviting, but the maintenence corridor is dark, foggy, and creepy as heck.) Are there any overall themes that would suit this map well? Defining the intangibles like these ahead of time can make it easier to come up with ways to make your map stand out from the crowd.

I've been thinking of doing a map set on a inhabited planet, inside a few hightech 25th century buildings (eg. 5th element style ). Its quite a challange doing it respecting the ns "rules" but possible. I'll surely give a go after ns_aurora is finished, but it doesn't stop u from trying...

I'll warn you ahead of time, the chances it would go official are slim - part of the idea Flay is shooting for is that the aliens are attacking the frontier of colonized space. That's why it's all these utilitarian facilities/ships that are getting the shaft, instead of luxury cruiseliners and population centers - the aliens haven't made it that far.
i think there should be in the marine base a car that can take up to 5people to the aliens hive or you can take it some where to hide?? and the cars is slow so the aliens can jump on it easy
staying with ns marine tech you cant build outside so maps on planets most likly have to have most of the map insidebecause the marnes use nano particles to build things and drop amm-health without corordors and halways wich have pipes there no place fo the nano to flow uotside so maps have be confined to inside mostly.

I really like that ship to ship level idea. Sort of like "Boarding Action" in Halo.
But... I imagine that players falling to their death every other time they try to jump to the other ships... might get a little frustrated. Perhaps if it were more of a controlled leap. A strong wind entity or teleporter, etc.
An intersteller cruise-liner, overtaken be the alien scourge. Complete with destroyed ballrooms, dirty olympic size pools, a hive in the stadium seating movie theatre and all.

I had that same idea...maybe called ns_titanic? The problem would be making it look "fancy and luxurious" but still high-tech.

...yet.
A mini-hive on each ship (except active marine ship), and the marines jump from one to the next (0 gravity)

the hive would be growing out of the sub which is all broken and stuff.. cool
