    I've been subscribed to the CD version of PC gamer for at least 3 or 4 years now, and am considering not renewing it when it ends. Post-broadband, print magazines no longer have anything unique to offer me thanks to the ~1 month delay time thanks to publishing. Demodiscs are useless if all of the demos can be found on the internet as early as a month before. Previews, reviews, and articles are useless if equal or better articles on the same topics can be found online as the news happens instead of as much as a month late.

    Can anyone name a print magazine on computer games that has anything to offer that makes paying the subscription fee worth it?

    Sadly, gaming magazines are a thing of the past. Any fan site can get more accurate information faster, demos you can download in minutes, and forums to discuss the news on...I honestly cannot think of one.

    Some good points.....for people with broadband! Yeah it is true that getting information on the net is easier and better, but I still love PC Gamer and it would feel wrong to stop supporting them like I have for the last couple of years. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    The thing I like about pc gamer is that I think they review games fairly and accurately. I think they are pretty funny too <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I subscribe to:

    GMR (the EB gaming mag, came free with my EBgames card)

    EGM (Electronics Gaming Monthly)

    I like EGM, as I have archives of it going back to...'98 I believe. I save up my mags. I still get them because I like the reviews, they are console only btw, and they have good previews.

    I get PC Gamer mostly because it has better info then most actual gaming sites, plus the articles and such. I could care less about the demos, I never play demos. The only thing I would change is have the hardware dude from CGW take the place of Venderman, the dude from CGW at least talks about hardware more then about his girlfriend. Oh, and I like that backpage CGW thing that is basically a grammatically correct flame rant.

    Big deal, I have an issue of a magazine (I forget the name) that declares Total Annihilation as 'soon to be the biggest thing to hit PCs!'

    I also have several full of half-life hype <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    There is a magazine in the UK that is based solely on modding.

    It can be a little elitest at times and can seem too short. But it's a very nice, stylish/arty magazine that deals with the industry as a whole.

    It's nice to see the games industry getting treated more like the "respected" entertainment industries like music, film etc. as opposed to the "wooo we are the crazy!1" kids magazines and the "Yay! hot, sexy women! Games are cool etc. I have a girlfriend you know..." crowd.
    While PC mags have a measured approach multi-format or console mags mostly fall under one of the other two.

    GMR rules, for sure. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> The reviews <b>ARE</b> accurate and fair, they're hilarious and witty, and they're written damn well. I also like the way they divide up their sections, and that they have a "RETRO//ACTIVE" section where they spotlight the good oldies and give them two ratings... "NOW" and "THEN". Meaning, if they had to review it now, they would give the score in "NOW", and if they had reviewed it then, they would have given the score in "THEN".

    Nope. Some of us would rather have that mystery of "I wonder what she looks like under those sexy sexy clothes" and have a little class and respect <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->. On topic:

    I recently got a subscription to EGM and I really like it. Something about being able to hold the reviews in my hand and read them in the bathroom makes them better than online sites. But for online I'm going to agree with DOOM and pick <a href='http://www.gamespot.com' target='_blank'>Gamespot</a>

    While true that the internet offers better information at a faster rate (*hugs T1*), print magazines show no signs of dropping off. I myself have been a subscriber of PC Gamer CD Version since just after it began (but they didn't have CD's at first, just disks). I'm still subscribed and will continue to be, mainly because the editorial staff has really grown on me (Chuck [The Chulk!], Billy, and yes, even the Vede) and I need my PCG fix atleast once a month.
