<div class="IPBDescription">Connecting rooms?</div> Ok, I'm a beginner mapper (started two weeks ago) <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/nerd.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd.gif'><!--endemo--> and after fixing a few compile problems I've really gotten into it. I need to know how I can connect rooms through corridors? Do I carve out the corridor somehow or do I make a totally new hollow room for the corridor? How do you pros do it?

Thanks! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

Goodluck out on the field! <!--emo&::marine::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/marine.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='marine.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Heh, it's kind of funny, I ran into the same problem when I started mapping. The trick is to not think of your room as an isolated unit, but more a part of the whole building. For instance the hallway in your house (assuming of course that there is a hallway) is not really differentiated from the rest of the room EXCEPT for the fact that it's a hallway. What I mean to say is that any of the corners you turn with brushes to make a room will work just as well for a hallway.

    As far as the actual technical process I go through.... usually I will chop a wall in half and resize it so that the space between the two halves matches the hallway I am creating. Then i'll add a piece above the doorway as I usually make the ceilings of my rooms taller than those of the hallways. From there it's simple window dressing. In general I wouldn't recommend trying to carve it out with the carve tool.... usually more trouble there than it's worth. Think of it as though you're playing with legos, just substitute in a different piece here, turn a piece there, and off you go, nice little hollowed out path to the next room.

    Hopefully this is helpful.... A saturday night of drinking is not exactly my most eloquent state in which to answer questions.

    I put together a small tutorial for peeps to use.
    Easy to follow instructions and pictures for connecting rooms together... Also comes with example RMF file.

    The file is in html so should be viewable in any web-browser
