Servers And Modded Maps

Is this normal?
I was playing a game the other day on a public server that will remain anonymous as per the new mb rules... anyway, we were playing on eclipse and I wasted five minutes or more and 15 res sending squads with welders to horseshoe to weld the vent, because it was becoming a menace to our base. Now, my clanmate eventually picked up the welder and took a squad to horseshoe (for the fourth time) and was finally successful in holding the position long enough to weld the vent... but the weld point had been removed from the map. We tried for a couple minutes while his squad held, but the weld point was simply not there. Of course, we lost cuz I wasted 5 minutes or more on something that was pointless, then had the server's clan claim l33tness.
What I'd like to know is this - can server operators mod their maps and take out weld point (among other things). And also - what code of ethics governs these modifications? Should the map-creators be contacted?, etc...

prolly it was already welded and bilebombed by a gorge.

and sending ur squad 5 times to the same point sounds kinda stupid.. Just mine the vent (give 2 people a pack of mines, help each other in the vent and mine).

it was a large game so mines were pointless and if it wasn't welded, we would've lost base - which ended up happening, and no - it was not already welded and then bilebombed by a gorge - we went there early in the game and a gorge hadn't gone near it.

occasionally on maps some of the res nodes havent been there... im guessing this is a bug and has probably already answered
