I do hate to tell you guys, But the OICW project was cancelled. The Grenades kept detonating in the launcher. Its still being worked on in Germany, But US development has been halted.

Yup, and the M16 still isn't much of a superior weapon....
OICW still has many flaws without the grenades detonating -weights a lot (not as much as most guns with grenade launchers) -very bulky -the fire control can malfunction and there would be no sight for the soldier to aim through -is it water proof?
OICW up -nice combo of nades and bullet -fire control, costly but very useful in battle -land warrior system -ingrated rangfinder -smart grenades, also costly -classic 5.56
The electronics haven't been combat tested and it doesn't matter how well it performs in tests; it's still unproven in combat. Batteries, extreme environment, the reduced ease of cleaning, operator overloading, weight and bulkiness are just some of the things that are drawbacks compared to, a regular assault rifle.
The 20mm does not have much bursting radius in the first place. Now take half the explosive out in order to stuff in that electronic fuze, and you have an even smaller lethal radius.
The G-36 portion is proven and reliable, however the shorter barrel means less performance. And listen, this weapon is never going to be as good as a seperate M4 for close quarters combat. It's just too ungainly; so they should have gone with a longer barrel to make the round more effective.
Now, for the capability it gives you, it will be worth it. If it works right.
Above all, it is good research. We can use the lessons learned to make the next generation weapon even more compact and more reliable.
Personally? I would rather ditch the 5.56mm portion of the OICW all together. Give it a grip and bipod, expand it's magazine capability, and essentially use it as a squad automatic grenade launcher. You would have the option for impact grenades (more explosive), or those airburst grenades. Give the guy a pistol for the close work. Now you have a dedicated support troop like a GPMG and the squad has much more suppresive firepower.
The M8 (5.56mm portion) is still under development as a stand-alone weapons system, and that may come out within the next decade or so.

This model has already been released for NS! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> (The OICW, that is.)
And the XM29 is still a butt-ugly affair, but is also still just a prototype of advanced version. Certain aesthetic considerations come last. Unless you're dealing with Belgian designers, as in the case of the F2000, which is far, far more appealing, despite its optional grenade-launcher attachment only carrying one round [though it has a variety of possible attachments].
The "XM29" [or OICW as everyone's more familiar with] has interesting specs and can do some nice things, but it's not in line with my personal ideas of what soldiers should be doing. The rifle part of it can be removed, last I heard, so you can ditch the excess weight of the GL if you need to, though I'm sure someone would be upset about that at some point.
The model here is not a CS model. It was converted from Tactical Ops [skinned by Sixshooter, who is widely recognized in the CS community as he was one of the original customizers there] to CS, then to NS. Since nobody reads anything...
I beleive their has been research on changing the grenade launcher from OVER the rifle, to under (They switch places actually. This would give the rifle a longer barrel and make it more accurate. It would also fix from weight distribution issues.
