<div class="IPBDescription">Hella fast, says their pr guys</div>Nvidia has released the latest set of Detonator drivers for their lines of Graphics cards. Here's a link and a summary:
<a href="http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?IO=winxp-2k_40.41" target="_blank">Nvidia Version: 40.41 Detonator Drivers</a>
Release Highlights:
<b>Up to a 25% increase in performance</b>
nView™ 2.0 multi-display technology increases productivity and provides the necessary tools to control the way users access and view applications.
NVRotate™ enabling image rotation on today’s advanced flat panel displays.
NVKeystone™ allows for real-time image correction on portable projectors and heads-up displays.
Digital Vibrance Control™ allows users to adjust color controls to achieve accurate, bright colors under all conditions.
New control panel streamlines user interface and enables faster and easier access to all video settings
Robust Channels enables higher faster performance and better stability for all applications through fail-safe paths in the drivers
CineFX Simulator allows developers to use Cg—“C for graphics”—to write complex shaders in a high level language faster and more easily than before.
NVIDIA’s patented Unified Driver Architecture (UDA) – supports all products in a single driver binary
As always, be sure to note your old driver versions and keep a copy of them handy in case of... 'issues' with the new ones, which are not yet fully certified.

the drivers.... I'm on 56k, so I'll wait until LAN this weekend to DL them. hopefully the claims are true.
BTW... after some massive overclocking I scored a 5201 in 3dmark with a GeForce2, 256 2100 ddr, and an AMD XP 1600, I'm wondering if I can beat that with these new drivers...
I use 2k Pro.
I hate XP with a passion. I just dont like all the crap they've added to the start menu for example, the find interface, the control panel ... none of it. I like 2k because it seems more 'classic'. Even though I cant run my old DOS games ...

I need to reinstall my HD at some point anyway. I'm getting random crashes and lockups when turning my computer on.
woooo, iii aaam the spiiiriiit of winndooows, i ssaaay screeew yooou meeerk!

Citizen: ITS LINUX!
*Cuse ghostbusters myoozac*
Who you gonna call? LINUX! doo doo doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo, I aint afraid of no OS (pronounces oh-s)...etc.
Here's my thoughts on the whole 2K/XP thing.
I tried windows 2000 on two occassions: once when it was about a month old, and then again about ayear later when drivers had matured even more. But I could never get Quake 3 or Half-Life to run at satisfactory levels. I'm talking 50fps in Quake 3 on my Geforce DDR, in situations where I hit the 100cap back on Windows 98. Half-life didn't even run.
My friend Stephen also had this exact same problem when he tried 2000. I know not everybody has this problem. In fact most don't. Even my friends Zach and Chris never did, their Quake 3 and HL worked perfect, with even better performance than Windows 98. I don't think it was a hardware thing either because I had upgraded by the time I tried it a second time, so the system was almost completely different except for video card and sound card.
Windows XP on the other hand, has never ever made me regret installing it. You couldn't pay me to go back to windows 98, this really is the best Windows OS ever (in my opinion). The new color scheme things take awhile to get used to, but I like them. If you never do like them you can turn them off. More important than that though, XP has much better hardware and software compatibility than 2K does, meaning the odds of you having an incompatibility are much much less. And odds are, if you have a good system you will see an INCREASE in performance. You will definately see a noticible increase in stability. I think XP has blue screened on me one time, and that was when a hardware device was physically failing on me.
XP (NT kernel) is the new standard rather than having two different OS's, which means Microsoft is really pushing for all hardware manufactor's to support it. Plus the driver writers are happy that they only have to write a driver for one OS rather than two.
XP runs favorably well on my laptop with only 433mhz and 192MB ram, so if you have a somewhat faster system with at least 256MB ram you'll do fine. And if you have more ram, you'll definately be in for a treat when you see how much better the NT kernel (windows 2000 and XP) manage memory compared to the way 9x (95, 98, ME) does. It is easily noticible by even a somewhat novice user, especially if you have 512MB ram or more.
So in short, I love XP :D
Also, if you have the extra cash, get XP Pro over Home edition.
1. Windows 98 can UPGRADE to XP for cheaper
and
2. I live in Seattle, so i know people who live in redmond and work for microsoft. I can get XP cheap.
2. Got the New Driver. BF1942 and AA still crash craptasticly. HL does sometimes, but that I can live with. Heeeeelp me! I keep getting critical stops and windows says "<b>your display drivers are fubar!!</b>"when I boot up again.

I would rather trash my graphics card than participating in this nVidia/Microsoft business scam. These two companies are obviously collaborating and exploiting their monopolies to boost their respective sales; too bad USA anti-trust laws are so dysfunctional.
and I am yet to yet the blue screen of death, but that's not to say that it doesn't freeze from time to time (it always seems to freeze when I'm using VHE)
Well, after these hysterics, I can say that
a). Like it said in the original post and on the website, the drivers are still uncertified.
b). You do not need to delete your previous drivers. I had no issues, and am definitely seeing a performance boost.
Be warned - I will wear your ### out when you show up at a jobsite with these uninformed and moronic ideas, l337 h4x0rs. When you tell a CIO that the answer to his malfunctioning servers is to reinstall them all every few weeks, and that you have no idea how to problem-solve and fix problems without causing massive outages, you will be heading back to McDonalds and good riddance to you.

Here's my say:
If you have Win98 and are happy with it...guess what? The answer's so bloody simple: <b>Don't upgrade your nVidia driver!</b> When it comes down to it, it's not going to make a huge difference to your life anyway. You may continue to rest in the snugness of 98 for a while longer.
/Snuggles with 98
I like my 98, it seems to be perfect and non buggy.
Well atleast not as buggy as ME
