<a href='http://www.surfingtheapocalypse.com/haunted_painting.html' target='_blank'>http://www.surfingtheapocalypse.com/haunte...d_painting.html</a>

Its about this suposedly very disturbing (to many people) painting that was found hidden behind an abandoned building.

The owner tried to sell it on eBay and since then hes gotten several letters and emails about it, everything from being very afraid/disturbed by it and others from several different religions offering to clense his house of some sort of evil that the painting has.

I dont belive in ghosts or stuff like that but this pic made me feel really uncomfortable after I looked that it.

I got this wierd feeling in my stomach, <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo--> heehee probably just sujestive reasoning from reading all the info on it. or something.

    creepy, but not scary.

Scary is seeing your friend make out with his girlfriend for like 5 minutes straight.

I know what this picture is without even clicking the link.

This thing made its rounds a couple years back on the AHL boards, and I do believe that this painting is as haunted as any could ever be. Even the digital replication if it is haunted, supposedly.

If you're daring, set the pic as your desktop wallpaper. Supposedly your computer will start acting very, very odd. I knew a few people who did this and they kept crashing left and right & having other errors, until they changed it back. Wierd.

    [edit]
Oh, and to those who think it isn't freaky, you're probably only giving it a passing glance. If you really look at the thing you'll notice all kinds of wierd crap in there. Backwards ankles, headless things, clawing hands, etc.

Since my computer is already acting like that, I might as well put up that picture as my dektop and see if it helps the issues get resolved. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

Urg that is one feaky painting. The expression on the face of that kid makes me feel quite uncomfortable. I wouldn't mind seeing it in real life, very interesting.

The only reason you get a strange feeling from looking at it is because you read the text to go with it which suggests (subliminally, even) that you SHOULD feel strange.

It's a bit like hypersuggestibility, but more on a subconcsious level.

Did you look at the pic? You must be thinking of something else... because there's none of that in here. All it is is a doll, a kid who looks like something out of a 1920's photograph, and some hands on a window.

BTW: That 'scary' lighting is achieved by simple camera tricks, sometimes even as simple as shining a red light on it.

There are hands clawing at the window behind them, and when you see the full length you can see a shadow of a face at the top of the window, freaky stuff if you ask me.

Like I said it's nothing special at a glance, try getting into a staring contest with it though.

You know nothing of art. Go look at Magrite, or M. C. Escher and then ask stupid questions.

The inclusion of arms, and bodies to go with the hands, would clutter the background. This cluttering would detract the viewers eye from looking at the boy and girl with the eerie hands behind him, to looking at just a kid in front of an orphanage. Furthermore, the title of the piece is 'Hands Resist Him'. Not 'Kids pressing against glass resist him'.

The boy is a picture of the artists in Chicago when he was a kid. The girl doll is based on a young girl he lived near. In the painting, the hands represent different lives he could've led, reaching out for him, tempting him. The doll represents a sort of imaginary guide through life he follows.

EDIT: And Dr. D... I can only assume that 'shadow of the face' is that circular thing at the top of the door. Brighten the image. It's nothing more then a circle.

I don't think its the sociology that comes with the groupthink we have going, I seriously get a feeling of something being wrong when seeing it, and I get a feeling of doom, or dread in the pit of my stomach.

Now it's tricky. Could the painting be haunted? Possibly, if you believe in the supernatural. Being a realist, I don't believe any of the rubbish, hell, maybe even I have a stronger mind and can... 'resist the temptations', for lack of a better way of putting it.

So now you don't know if it's a TRUE feeling of dread you get from it being haunted, if the painting is just downright eerie, or if you only feel that way from reading the text, reading other peoples responses <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
