true weird american stuff, but there is something in the legislation to fix that.

it's Kentucky, I think, so basically that means in the 2nd stupidest state in the US.

You've got it backwards. It's illegal to FORBID to teach it because of religion. I think. It was all in Inherit the Wind which I almost fell asleep in.

There are probably no rules against that sort of thing in most schools. Religion can't be taught in a required class though, at least as the only option.

don't know where you lives, but in oregon, we teach both one, right after the other... we get the "God theory" and then the "Darwin Theory".. same class, same 15 minutes... lets us gain a "level" of knowlage that will be reffered to..

but yeah, i don't think it's illegal to teach about flayra and his game.... but what class would be teaching that?

I'd ****ing kill someone if I went to a school like that. Don't get me wrong, I hate Science because I'm bad at it, but that's just stupid.

It's determined by the educational board in each state, as far as I know. Kansas made headlines about a year ago for deciding to ban the teaching of evolution in public schools in its state, but no other states followed suit.

Note that this only applies to public schools - private schools can teach almost whatever they want (subject to some basic review standards from the state board, I believe, but teaching of religion isn't at all restricted). I don't know of any schools that don't teach evolution in California, though, and I went to parochial schools all the way up through high school. In religion class we studied Genesis and the significance of the creation story (interpreting it as a story told to illustrate theological points, not as historical record), and in science class we studied evolution. Yay Catholicism!

It's perfectly legal to teach it, such as in Science, where we learn about the theory of evolution and whatnot.
However, I believe it's illegal to preach for/against it--like, "Come to the Christian side, we are the true faith--ehrm, and then Jesus was then..."

Unsure about evolution, though, my teacher continues to point out that it's true and stuff.

Umm, it was illegal in a couple states, for them to teach it in PUBLIC schools.

Even in the most backwards American states, you can still go online, do a search for "origin of species", and come up with info on evolution. I know that if I'd grown up in Kansas and not been taught evolution in school, my parents would have filled me in (and complained very loudly to the school board, or sent me to a better school).

Usually the same states which ban open mindedness are the same which have anual witch burnings. Huzzah for all.

Amen brother!

...oh wait...

But seriously, I don't know where you guys are getting your information. As far as I know, besides the idiotic Kansas thing (which got shot down really fast) the teaching of evolution in public school hasn't been outlawed since the 1930's.

If I am wrong though, please let me know.

OMG!! What gives the christians authority to put their "theories" first over other "theories", theories which have MUCH more evidence to back them up. It is because it opposes their teachings, and they just cant hack that.

If you ever needed proof the church was egotistical, hypocritical, and had an inferiority complex, this is it.

*runs around the room screaming in anger*
