Lag In Ns, But Not In Cs

It might just be me, or, since there aren't a whole lot of NS servers in STEAM, a lack of different servers to choose from, but I get a crapload of lag whenever I play NS in STEAM...

okay... maybe not a crapload... usually levels out around 115... (cough)...

Anyways... this is only in, at most, 2 or 3 servers (At most, I only have 7 servers show up with all filters off). In the server list, the pings for these servers are around 60 ping, even if I hit refresh. In CS, the servers that say they have about 60 ping are 60 ping when I join, however, in NS, this does not seem to be the case. Since 2.1 is coming out, maybe this'll be fixed, but until then, any suggestions?

that's strange, when I search steam i get lots of NS servers, are you sure it isn't finding only servers in your country? (thats a steam option isn't it?)

The ping in the browser is your ping to that particular server. Once *on* the server your ping however takes into effect the *performance* of the server, which is why you are experiencing this.

CS servers take a lot less system resources to run, many NS servers simply can't handle the amount of processing, causing in-game lag, not "actual" lag. Basically, the server is overworked and doesn't have time to process your information quick enough, but the connection is still fast.

It's true. I just checked, and I got 10 servers with people in them, 5 of which contains bots.

you may be going thru the same thing im going thru
    models...
in NS the buildings are modles, and not brushes, hence requiring more system resources, when i play hl on this i get a nice 15fps, but ns is a diff story, 3fps IF im lucky, cant wait till christmas...

There are also more important "lag" factors than just ping. I suggest finding a tweaking guide and following it (there are lots for CS that apply pretty well).

That should be about right as it stands right now. Not many NS 2.01 Steam servers out there... well there are, but ones with real people... Anyhow, that is about what I find at the moment.
So we wait for 2.1, which is in beta now (you can test it if you are a constilation member). 2.1 will be Steam only, and the number of Steam servers should go up a lot once it comes out.

WOW! (e)kent, you are the man! You too Flayra! I uninstalled the NS I had and used the link that (e)kent posted. I am impressed. My lag has now been cut in half.

Hey Flayra, you should post a message about the install on the news page.
    Just say something like:

'I'm aware that most of you are awaiting version 2.1, but, until then, we have released the 2.0 installer for STEAM. Only use this as a possible solution to problems with NS through STEAM, such as higher-than-normal latencies, possible texture problems, etc.'

    Anyways, great job!
