I think there's tutorials on that in the sticky topic...

Also if you want to make skins/concepts, most people just use photoshop/Paint Shop Pro or somethign of the like.

look dude go to the sticky topic about wanna make models

u cant just paint on the gun like on a wall ( well atleast not with milkshape) 8)

u have to go throug a much complexer procedure read about it in the topic

ok... so u've made the gun. now u need to animate it. to do that i suggest u use the smd's from another m16 model. import a refrence smd form another m16 model... replace that m16 with yours, rebone, export as the reference and recompile.

u need to then need to skin it, we'll talk about that l8er

    Dillinja:

Milkshape is a very good little program, so don't be dissing it that way. Not to mention you're dodging the swear filter.

    Razorblade:

Sounds like what you need is a skinmeshing tutorial (to get a 2D representation of your model you can paint on, essentially). Alas I dont' know of any good Milkshape ones - I had to learn by just jumping in and trying things, but maybe other people here can suggest some tuts.

Maus it was you who added this link to the help sticky:

Weee.... Skin Meshing (how to skin mesh. not gun specific)

You will also need a photo/picture editing program like PSP or Photoshop
