Well i've tried everything i can think of, and after searchig through the topics in this forum to no avail, i've decided to post.
nForce2
XP2000+
512meg Generic DDR
ASUS ti4600 Ultra
WindowsXP w/ SP1a (fresh install)
Well, NS was working fine under 2k, and yesterday i installed XP with SP1/1a. Now whenever i try and host or join a NS server, my comptuer restarts. Everything's fine, it connects and authenticates, but when it gets to the part where the console goes up and the you can see the level, my entire comptuer restarts.
I had the same HL directory from 2k (which was working fine) but it had the problem in xp. So i reinstalled ns, same prob, then reinstalled hl, same problem. I've tried different drivers for everything, and tried a GeForce 4MX (onboard) and different soundcard (onboard) but nothing seems to help...
If i can't get it fixed i'm going to have to go back to 2k (cuz ns is such an awsome game... hats off to the dev team)
Any assistance will be greatly appreicated...
Cheers.

however, what it sounds like is that you are getting a nonvisable BSoD
XP has a silly feature that it auto enables...
It dosn't show BSoDs, it simply reboots.
so, you can either find your minidump files and post the most recent one (and hope that some one has the stuff to read them, I don't)
OR you can simply start updating ALL your drivers (every one, including mobo, don't forget).
BSoDs often simply meen that you are getting a memory overflow, and these are generaly caused by bad drivers.
so do the full patch deal, and call us in the morning
(note, if you find my number and call me in the morning I will be forced to kill you)
Only reason i don't use 2k is that it's got some compatablity issues with my burner...
A non-visbile bsod hey... I think you might be right, because i get the 'you're system has recovered from a serious error' message when my comp reboots...
I've DL'ed the very latest drivers and installed them, and it's still crashing... It's weird because its only NS that crashes... normal HL, DMC & TFC level's load fine...
The minidump file from the crash is located here. After a bit of research there's apparently a MS program used to read them called dumpchk which outputs the following information but that doesn't make much sense to me...
I went to install 2k on a diff partition.. and totally broke xp... so i installed 2k then xp... but there was some error in my boot.ini and another system file, and everything broke again... so i tried it *again* (if i never see another 2k/xp setup screen, it will be too soon ) and in xp, while loading ns, i actually got a BSOD... it must have something to do with having 2k installed at the same time... anyway, it said that the file causing the crash was audio.sys or something to that effect, so i figured it must by my sound card drivers. I installed the 3 latest versions, and they the crash still occured, so then i hunted on the internet for a while, and found the *oldest* drivers i could find (2.something's... the ones i use are 6.somethings) and yay, its working!
My soundcard is a Hercules muSE btw...
Thank's very much for you're help... I prolly never would have fixed it without you... really appreciate it
Yay for NS!
