<div class="IPBDescription">I HAVE FOUND PROOF!!!</div> MWAHAHAHA not really a big thing, or meaning that it should be implimented, BUT:

In the trchtrope article (official documentation for NS) during Frontiersmen training, it specifically references grenades as well as rockets. This occurs right after the phase gate is introduced. The quote:

<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->“We’re not just fightin’ aliens out there,” says Baggards (Petty Officer Third Class), as he lobs one practice grenade after another through a series of target hoops, simulated doorways and windows, bouncing them deftly around corners where an overhead laser system paints their blast radius in puddles of green luminescence, “We’re fightin’ for goddam law and order.”
“Aliens!” hollers his partner, sending a rocket hissing out across the practice field with an electromagnetic thump, “Yee-freakin’-hah!”
<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

So if Flayra says that grenades have no place in NS? LIES!!!
w00 ha!!

ps:
I do love Flay. I keep a fold out picture of him under my pillow.

    Actually, Techtrope is backstory. You'll also note that they mention an ion-weapon. Which isn't in NS either, and was being phased out at the time. Rocket launchers were proved inviable for ship combat, and the 'lobbing' of grenades were from a GL. Nowhere do they mention that they were hand-thrown grenades. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    DOOO IIIIITTT!!!

    Sides, hand grenades are very viable. They would be just enough to keep lerks and such from camping in vents.

    Which is what they're supposed to do in the early game. There's a REASON JPs and GLs are top of the tech tree.. they're used for vent clearing. It may be frustrating, but ignore the Skulk chuckling in the vent, and punt on. That's why he's chuckling there... to get you standing around, frustratedly trying to shoot him, wasting your time so the hive can have defense built up and so his other teammates can be more free to advance across the map.

    Heck, on old Caged I usually would get about half the Marine team trying to shoot me in the vent, or stacking up to try and climb in. By which point I'd already be a Lerk, and just spike them a few times each, getting them to hang around even MORE. It was this kind of tactic, playing on the Marines' frustration, which allowed Kharaa to win so often in 1.04 before the JP/HMG rush was stumbled upon.

    So no. No handgrenades.

    god, I'd so love it if they gave NS a rocket launcher tho :]

    man rocket launchers would be really cheap then, and the reason that gl's are at the top of tech tree is so that SMALL AND HELPLESS skluks can eat something without getting blownup in the face

    ns_boarding, where two ships fly next to eachother, connected by a boarding system.

    That would be a sweet map.

    I'd love to know what an "electromagnetic thump" sounds like (.wav, anyone? <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> )

    This only works on pubs...

    Man, people just don't get it:

    Just leave them alone! What is the point of killing a lerk in a vent?

    If it's at marine base, big deal! Build two turrets and the lerk will be powerless to kill the marine base.

    Some random spot on the map? Big deal! Who cares, leave them alone, attack the aliens stuff!

    I would, but I'm mapping for quake right now and it will take TOO long to make a Ns map. And i'll need to get the FGD files, got to configure WorldCraft for HL/Ns. Meh, not in the mood lol.

    Maybe in the future. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Because it's a safe way for a newbie to distract a good chunk of the Marine team without needing to worry about being shot in the slightest. Just stay well back in the vent, and chuckle away. If you peek out, they might be waiting en masse with their pistols to spatter the walls with you in half a second.

    Heh, I so wanted to see the faces of those two skulks who where chomping the walls in the double res in ns_caged and driving the base guards crazy. We made a tower of 4 or five people and boosted me to the vent. Got them both with my trusty lmg <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
