I get a little bit more dissapointed..
Don't get me wrong, I think the NS team is doing a great job and all - But lately everyone's been really, really edgy.
Again, I can completely understand the team being like this seeing as the Dev. guys would be under considerable stress at such a time, but from people like playtesters - Coil, for example, nearly blowing up on Diogenes' Dog for raising a simple point. For the most part I've found the playtesters courteous and helpful, but some of them are hostile and 'holier than thou', which I don't think is helping anyone.
Then there's the rest of the forumers who, for whatever reason, feel the need to post their severe dissapointment, gratitude, annoyance or begging every three seconds. Every thread, every -single- thread, idea threads, discussion threads, just simple point threads - Become filled with 'Stop being ungrateful!' or 'PLEASE RELEASE NS PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE I WILL DIE' in eighteen different varieties.
Where is your patience? Don't any of you have jobs/school? Sure, NS is going to be amazing, but hold yourselves together. Please. I remember this time when the forums were filled with helpful threads, you know? And those helpful threads were filled with helpful posts.. Now every other thread is either about speculation, a reason why NS will succeed/fail, which is speculation anyway, or a decent topic which is overrun and captured by the THREE SECOND POSTERS.
You know who you are..

It's going to be an awesome mod, but I'm patient, I'll just have a blast when it's out

Ironic, huh?
I just sat in IRC for the past hour discussing one aspect of the game with some other PT's, so don't worry, we are working hard! Don't kill us please, these long talks are hard enough

(Note: I should put this on the Haiku thread on the EC forums)
No amount of Internal beta testing will ever perfectly balance the game. The general public tends to scour the entire game for SOME tactic (Even the most miniscule way possible) to somehow find a gap in the balance that'll give them an advantage.
Once it's found it spreads like wildfire, and soon everyone's doing it. Then the forums shall be flooded with 'OMG! Stooped L4mers! Nerf the __!!!!11'!
This even happens in the S&I forums I think...
I'm not saying the NS team should do a #### poor job on the balance. But I would like them to realize that perfecting a mod's balance cannot happen until after the first release.

"The mind shall vanquish the sword!"
But, when there are some major enough...hampers/exploits/annoyances that occur often enough to annoy us dedicated testers, then we try and find a way to make it work and be fun. Recently, fun is becoming a big factor. Yes, we like it as is, but we want it to be fun for everyone to play.

If you think that by posting 45 paragraphs every post it some how makes that post more thought provoking you're wrong. If you actually said something that I thought was worthy of writing more than a straight to the point post, then I would have made my post longer, but I find nothing interesting about a topic that's already been basically beat to the ground anyways.
I'll assume you are referring to me, not coil? I recall being the one who blew up... apologized, and then further discussed the topic.
My hostility was stirred from what I considered an offensive post, not a presumed "godliness". I regreted posting it after I reread the message, but my playtester status had nothing to do with the reason I wrote it. Also, like you mentioned, there was an excess of negative posts hanging around... it just got to me.
I'd also like to point out that the playtesters are under a considerable amount of stress as well, so a few of them may be a little cranky every once and a while.
Really though, if I'm sending out those kind of vibes with what I say, I'd definitely like to know how... because it's the absolute last thing I want to be doing. Again, that post where I blew up in Dio's face was wrong and downright rude. I regret it, and I'm sorry about it. But I'm honestly not going to write something like that without being quite offended in the first place. I misunderstood the intent of his post. To me it sounded like he was griping about the lack of updates, and claiming that the developers are lying to us and really have a world of time on their hands. This apparently wasn't the case.
The last thing I want to do is look like I'm trying to place myself above everyone else because of a title under my name. Or am I misunderstanding this post as well?
I'm going to go lay down now...

So I apologize if I've been gruff recently; I try to present the newbies with a helpful face. Just play smart. (:
This is, without doubt, the best community and group of people I ever have had the honor to know about!

What drug u on? Every mod switches over to constant deabate after release. Better make a private forum for your buds, cuz all this going out the window.

That's exactly what I was thinking.
This has to stop, it doesnt matter if you dint do it, the problem is that someone is doing it, thats the only thing that matters. When someone is given more power over others, human nature will come in and make that person strive to use their power for their own good, be it by boosting their self esteem, egos, acquiring more money or more power. We cant get rid of it, but surely we can try and not to show this kind of attitude towards other people right?
Now please, understand, this is NOT a reply intended for flames, i am merely pointing out exactly what ken wanted someone to point out, its not you ken, but some of the other PTs do boast their titles, i will not say names to avoid flaming, but you know who you are, at least i hope so.
Oh, and about the stress. Everyone stresses in their life, not just devs, PTs, or businessmen, EVERYONE here is stressful, its just a matter of handling it and not letting it interfere with your relations. Hard to do, but doable for the most part.

I can definitely understand why hearing stories about others getting to play a highly anticipated game before you could get incredibly frustrating. I know that I, personally, would start to get pretty irritated. To others though, it's a nice entertaining way to pass time while they wait. They love it.
What a lot of people need to understand right now though is that the game is not done yet. It's plain and simply not ready for a release. I don't think any of the developers here are aiming for an utterly "perfect" release. This isn't a case where we're all sitting around playing a perfectly balanced game trying to iron out a few misc bugs while sticking our tounges out at the rest of the community. All showstopper bugs need to be killed off, as well as any frustrating balance issues... but I doubt the release is going to be held up by little things.
But... that's the thing. Showstoppers absolutely need to be fixed before release. Regardless whether you personally wouldn't mind playing with them or not. It's essential to the game's success. Now, take these (completely random) examples into consideration: If the team balance is so out of whack that one side is constantly winning or another is falling into a routine that the players don't exactly consider fun... Or... If there's a glitch that makes the game spit you out to the desktop every time you evolve to a level5 alien...
Are people going to stick around and show interest? Especially players who haven't been following the mod? Hardly.
All that said, I'm sure it's pretty obvious by the current events and postings that the public release apparently isn't too far off...
Edit: And Rico: good point about the stress, though I was more or less referring to stress over issues with the game.

Thanks for the apologies, I really appreciate them.
To the few who dared to agreed with me, courageous enough to brave the flames of id'jits -
Again, thanks. What you said (Especially Rico) raised a few good points.
To most everyone else who either flamed me or said 'threads like this are CS/DoD' -
Uhm.. Go away, please. Get off my thread, you're infecting it.
This.
Thread.
Ends.
